Uribe will make $2.15 million next season, $3.15 million in 2006 and $4.15 million in 2007. The club has an $5 million option for 2008 with a $300,000 buyout.

Horrible deal for the Pirates. Isn't time to give that ballpark a real team, and just merge the Pirates with the Iowa Cubs?

The only possible explanation is that Dave Littlefield and the Pirates ownership actually hate every individual in western Pennsylvania. They have to. It's the only way to explain why you'd give a 3 year, $20 million dollar contract to someone that's still under contract for this year and next year before the Bucs have to worry about him getting away and who's coming off his worst offensive season yet (reasons for his lack of ability to do anything at the plate for the first half notwithstanding). I, personally, can't fathom how you increase someone's salary by 2.66 million dollars coming off of a season like that. He has been a Gold Glove runner up for four years straight, but this is ludicrous. You don't give someone coming off of a (possibly appendectomy worsened) season this deal. You wait to see if he's back to 2004 form. Even then, this is too much.

Dave Littlefield is the worst GM in baseball.

I was drinking an Aarn City when I read this on the television bottom scroll and spit it across the bar, cursed Littlefield aloud, and ordered a shot of Maker's Mark to drown my pain.

"Hey does anyone have any use for Soriano? We sure don't. I'm also looking for an upgrade at SS because I signed Cristian Guzman to a 4 year deal. I got nothing in return for Castilla's ****ty contract that I gave him, and Alex Escobar hasn't played a game for us yet. Well, Jerry Owens is just a football player anyways."

Brian Sabean also says "hi" with this nugget.
Giants agreed to terms with outfielder Randy Winn on a three-year, $23.25 million contract extension through 2009.
Ouch. Winn, already due $5 million this year, gets a $3 million signing bonus and salaries of $4 million in 2007, $8 million in 2008 and $8.25 million in 2009. Considering that Winn will likely be back in an outfield corner for at least the second half of the deal, he has the potential to be quite a liability at those salaries. The 31-year-old Winn is a career .288/.346/.425 hitter. Richard Hidalgo, who is a year younger than Winn and just signed a minor league deal, is at .269/.345/.490 in his career

Juan Uribe (5 seasons), 26 years old
594 G, 2138 AB, 286 R, 561 H, 63 HR, 280 RBI, 32 SB, 21 CS, .262 AVG, .305 OBP, .432 SLG

Jack Wilson (5 seasons), 28 years old
720 G, 2714 AB, 321 R, 715 H, 35 HR, 245 RBI, 26 SB, 17 CS, .263 AVG, .304 OBP, .368 SLG

Juan Uribe
71 E, 4994.2 INN, 2838 TC, .975 FPCT, 4.99 RF, 1 E/40 TC

Jack Wilson
79 E, 6074.1 INN, 3374 TC, .977 FPCT, 4.88 RF, 1 E/43 TC

The two almost have identical KEY numbers. Hits and runs will differ mainly because Wilson has played in more games and has more at-bats. Wilson is two years older, less power, and because of the less power he also has a noticably lower SLG %.

Pirates need a new GM. I'll be waiting for my phone to ring. :D:

Jack Wilson is overpaid. Probably the 1st Buc in 10 years that can say that.

I'm sure Jason Kendal might have something to say about that.

Seriously. I think I may get a season ticket plan just for the Bucs just for that.
