Out of the four main starters, who will provide this team with the most wins?

Mark Buehrle

No JVaz? :o: :redneck

I want to say Buehrle, but I seriously think Vazquez is going to be ridiculous this year. And since he's not a choice, well I'll go with Mark .... But my write is is Javy!

To be honest with you guys, I've had this strange feeling inside for a while that Freddy is going to absolutely dominate this year and get anywhere from 20-23 wins. And, no, I have not gone through any drug abuse over the offseason.

I have a feeling this is the year mark will have 20+ wins and win the cy young.

This is the year Jose really breaks out. He wins 20 and maybe the Cy Young.

I've never been this excited about our pitching staff going into a season. Even before 05 there were many more questions than this year. The only question this year seems to be which pitcher is the favorite to win the cy young. I picked Buehrle, but honestly, Freddy and Jose both have shots too.

It seems as if every year Buehrle has a phenomenal first half of the season in terms of record, then in the second half, he only wins about half as many games as he did in the first half. This year I think it will be different. He has McCarthy, Politte, Cotts and BBB Jenks behind him to lock in victories (as well as Hermanson). IMO, Marte not pitching for the Sox is good for at least 1 victory per starter. Overall, I think that 18-22 wins is a reasonable range for our ace in '06, as well as serious Cy Young contention.

Really tough call. Personally, I'm rooting for Buehrle to finally get a 20 win season, especially after seeing him fall just short in 2002. He's been the heart of the staff for 5 seasons now, and it'd be great see to him get it. Obviously, I'd love to see all of the starters succeed. I'm hoping we get to see some friendly competition between the starters like we did last year with each starter trying to out-do the previous pitcher's performance.

I just see Freddy comin on strong just as Jose did in the playoffs. It could go 3 or 4 ways though!

I've had that same feeling :redneck only I would say he'll just get the 20 wins.

The official order of finish.

Buehrle
Vazquez
Garland
Contreras
Garcia

You give Vazquez too much credit. I cannot fathom how he could finish above anybody. Also, Contreas is in a contract year: he knows that other teams will be drooling if he does well. Cha-ching!

Buehrle 20-22 (optimistic, but got a hunch)
Contreras 18-20
Garland 16-18
Garcia 15-18
Vazquez 14

The beautiful thing here is that all of them are going to get 200+ innings. (yes, yes, if they are healthy)

I don't know....I'm with those who think Vazquez is going to be really good. I would have picked him if he was a choice, but since he isn't, I went with Buehrle.

Buehrle will lead a staff of all 15-game winners (at least)

Buehrle 16
Contreras 14
Garcia 15
Garland 15
Vazquez 13

This is the year Jose really breaks out. He wins 20 and maybe the Cy Young.

And if so, Uncle George will welcome him back to NY with a 10yr/$100 million contract!

But I honestly cannot pick anyone. This group is too close in ability to call who will have the most.

Don't count out Vazquez.

Look at what the 5th spot did for Garland early on in the season in 2005. He was able to get his record to 8-0 in May.

Javier 16

Garland 16

Jose 16

I like it - that adds up to 85 wins just from our starters alone - not counting wins racked up by the bullpen. Maybe McCarthy and the rest of the 'pen will rack up the other 20 wins for us.

To answer the poll, I pick Buehrle. But, I think the poll is incomplete without Vazquez as an option.

Wins are a funny thing - although nothing else really matters, most wins doesn't necessarily mean the pitcher who had the best year or the best pitcher on the staff for a big game. I love Buehrle because of his quality starts - as everyone who visits this web site already knows, Burhrle always seems to go 6 or more innings and he always seems to keep the team in the game. With that said, my crystal ball says Jose wins 20, Buehrle wins 20, Garland wins 17, Garcia wins 16, and McCarthy gets 15!

Isn't it great to have this debate?

btw, what is the rotation?

Buehrle is #1, & Vazquez is #5, but the middle? Just wondering.

The team's #1 doesn't really face the other team's #1s (& so on)... Different opening days & days off early on, & some teams skipping the #5 starter early on (remember that? ha).

Buehrle is an automatic pencil in for 18-20 wins. Everyone else could, but a betting man's on Mark.

Don Cooper had an interview yesterday on Comcast and if IIRC he said the rotation at season's start would be Mark, Freddy, Jose, John, and Javier. Not sure if that's set in stone or if that was even what he said, but I think it was.

Mark Buehrle is the leader of this staff and will have the most wins (20+). Next will be Garcia with 18, Garland with 16, and Vasquez and Contreas with 15 each. McCarthy gets 6. That's 90 wins right there from the starting rotation!

"This coming year's gonna be my year!"

Older Sox fans may recognise that as a line from one hit wonder David
Naughton's cheesy 1979 disco:puking:hit "Makin' It".
For those who want to know how cheesy it really was,
see the movie "MeatBalls" with Bill Murray. It's featured
briefly (THANK GOD!!) during the camp counselors dance.

I like your thinking.Just remeber what happened to the last team with 4
20 game winners, the 1971 Orioles; they lost the WS in 7 to the Pirates.
8 years later the "We Are Family" Pirates of Willie Stargell did it again.
BTW,both game 7's were IN BALTIMORE.

Ya, I think Freddy is due for some domination. He will have the run support unlike his years with the Mariners.

If that is the rotation, then I like Javier. Much like Garland last year, Javier has something to prove and the 5-hole gives him the best chance at success without the added pressure of "carrying" the rotation in the 1 thru 3 spot.
