I wrote earlier this week that Tim Purpura hadn't made a trade in his 478 days as general manager of the Astros.
Turns out, that's wrong. After hours of digging, researchers have uncovered a Tim Redding-for-Humberto Quintero deal last year.
When this was pointed out to me several times on Tuesday, I argued it shouldn't count.
''When you're going to release a guy,'' I say, ''that hardly counts as a trade. That's a trade with a asterisk.''
''You didn't see where he said he's going to make the White Sox?'' Phil Garner asked. ''He said he'd never felt so at home in a place.''
''Hey,'' I say, ''that's a knock at you.''
''I know,'' Garner said, and he didn't seem amused.
