View Full Version : Is this the truth?

My history teacher was giving a lecture about progressivism today and said the reason so many people like the Cubs is because "they keep you young at heart." If you root for a team other than the Cubs, you're expected to win and you know your dreams of being a big-league ballplayer are gone forever. If you're a Cubs fan, you realize you could still play third base.

They have Ramirez who hits pretty well. I think I can play right field pretty decently for half of what Jocks Jones gets paid.

Actually I think a couple big reasons were Reinsdorf taking the Sox off WGN and the Tribune buying the Cubs.

Your history teacher probably has no clue what the hell baseball is but has heard about the Cubs and figured it would peak the classes interest if he/she mentioned the Cubs.

Next time raise your hand and ask if your teacher advocates dreaming over trying to achieve success in all walks of life.

Quite the contrary, he has Cubs headlines from '89 when they won the division and from '98 when they won the wild card. He also has headlines from when the Bulls won their 5th championship and the Sun-Times poster from when they won their second. Any White Sox headlines, you ask? Two from when they got swept by Seattle in 2000. He even insulted Sox fans everywhere when he put headlines from when the Sox were "choking" at the front of the room, including one from a game I went to. That only happened a couple of times though because the Sox got hot after that.

He earned some redemption when he showed everyone the questions Ozzie was asked on his citizenship test.

To clarify what I said earlier about dreams of playing third base, I think he meant that since the Cubs never play well at their positions, you feel like you could go out there and do better.

Redemption? The word I had in mind would be revenge... every single one of his students should be a proud Sox fan. A baffoon like that should be faced every day by 30-40 kids wearing as much Sox stuff as they can...

I agree with this also. That's why I said I can play right field. I've got no speed, no power, no arm, but I can be a crowd favorite.

I'm sorry, but that is such horse****. If rooting for a team that is never expected to win "keeps you young at heart", then shouldn't he be a Devil Rays or Royals or Pirates fan? As far as teams that are "expected to win" , which team was it again that was pre-annointed to win the pennant in 2004? And which overrated North Side team continued to get more playoff hype than the Sox well into the 2005 season?

That's one of the things I hate most about Cub fans - alot of them are such freaking hypocrites. They spew all this total BS about being "pure of heart" and lovable fans, blah, blah, blah and then they turn around and show that they are just a bunch of Sox-haters. For being such a lovable, young at heart bunch, Cub fans sure have been real sore losers about the Sox WINNING THE WORLD SERIES.

Ah yes, nothing keeps you young at heart like making fun of successful Sox teams.

Pretty pathetic that he bothers displaying newspaper headlines from Sox losses. I guess that proves that Cub fans don't care about the Sox!

Since he's so interested in Chicago sports headlines, I suggest he display headlines from the following dates:
- October 15, 2003
- October 16, 2003
- Sept. 30, 2005
- October 17, 2005
- October 27, 2005

Dude, if you can take off April 4 I've got two free tickets for the ring ceremony game for you on two conditions: 1, you get there's early enough to get the replica championship rings. 2, you give your history teacher one of them.

I'm dead serious. PM me.
