I will have pictures as soon as I pick them up from a friend.

Got a call today from a friend, told me he had two original metal templets from the Chicago Papers after the Sox won the series.

A nice snag indeed. You could make a killing with those on ebay.

Wow. That would be a hell of a collector's item. All you need now is a press, and you can start selling your own copies! Seriously though, that is pretty cool. How did your friend manage to get these, if you don't mind me asking...?

Cubune press templates stolen from building. Lunatic Sox fan most likely caring a gun suspected.

Plans to possibly make Tons of money on ebay

Cub fans would never do this

Sox Never Won Series!
Phony templates used to forge newspapers, signatures, score cards.
"Sox" may not actually be an MLB team.
Paul Konerko, Jermaine Dye actually dead for 70 years.
Selig: "We were duped!"

I'm sure they just toss them out afterwards. Not sure, I can't wait to pick them up.

My parents were given the plates from the Trib when the Sox won the WS and ALCS, so there must be more than one plate for each day. They are a great collectable to have, and keep.

Huh????? I dont get it. Are you implying the only reason the Cubs didnt get it first is b/c of him? If you are, you are dead wrong my friend, one foul ball doesnt change the fact that the Marlins came back with a vengeance and beat them by playing better baseball.

i agree. however, a whiner with piss-soaked hands throwing down his mitt down and stomping about like a baby certainly might distract an infield/pitcher.

Wouldn't the text and images on the plates have to be backwards so that they would show up the correct way on the paper?

Beat me to the post....unless these were made as commemorative things.

Nope

These were used on the press ( I can tell from how they were mounted ) not a commemorative thing at all.

To tell you the truth, what you said makes you look like an apologist, I was pointing that out with my post. How you find my post in anyway resembling anything a SCRubs fan has said on the incident is beyond me. I'm pretty sure bringing Bartman into a thread about our WS headlines makes you an apologist, or at least an excuse maker/curse believer/cubsessed.

I was stumped for a while as to how a positive plate can create a positive image on the paper but after looking at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_printing), it makes sense now.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6b/Offset.png

The positive plate produces a negative image on the offset cylinder which in turn produces a positive image on the paper.

Bow down to technology!

Not in offset printing, see this page (http://people.howstuffworks.com/offset-printing4.htm) for a description of how it works. Basically, the plate is the same image as what should print, it's reversed on the offset blanket cynlinder, and then printed correctly on paper.

Haha, I think I have my actual newspapers in a very similar frame. They look almost exactly like that but colored.

not to be a buzzkill but if those were part of the press wouldn't image have to be reversed so it shows up right on paper?

EDIT: sorry inr...didn't see your post.

I was just thinking the same thing, these can't be original press plates. They look cool though. I worked for a company that printed the local paper in DeKalb, and the plates were always reversed. Not to mention that the cover of the Trib is a 4 color print Cyan, Black, Magenta, and Yellow. The picture Would look a little off on all of them but the black, and the Black wouldn't have the Trib Banner at the top of it, because that is all Blue. Fliers are printed on an offset press, Papers are printed on a Web Press. I Can't see the Trib having an offset press that would be more effective than a web press, but I have been out of the industry for about 9 years now. Not to mention that both the Front and the back page of the paper would be on the same plate if it was an offset press. Could these maybe be from the re-prints for high quality Plaques or posters?
