View Full Version : Timo signs!!!!
With the Reds. Per rotoworld.
Reds signed outfielder Timo Perez to a minor league contract.
Fire Wayne Krivsky! Now we know why there were some rumors about the Twins being interested in Timo. Perez turns 31 in April and he's been a pretty brutal player outside of a surprising 2002 season. He's not worthy of a spot on Cincinnati's bench. No team can afford to carry both Timo and Tony Womack.

Well, he is certainly going to get more chances to drive Carlos Zambrano crazy on the basepaths if he makes the team.:redneck

does this makes Dunn, Wily Mo, or Griffey available for cheap?

If he makes the squad it will just be replacing Jacob Cruz in the 5th OF, defensive sub role. I would consider Timo's chances of making the Reds opening day roster with their crowded OF situation slim.

Just be glad he's in the NL,not the AL.
Here's hoping Timo drives Carlos Zambrano to an early retirement.:D:

I'm with you. I refuse to make fun of a player that helped this team win a World Series

With the guys they have in the OF, he may have to play 1B too. Seriously, I cannot see where he gets a lot of playing time with the Reds. He's not a good PH and may even be a bt rusty sitting most of this past year.
In all honesty, he should have gone back to Japan.

Who knows, he may still end up there. It's only a minor league deal and not every player signed to one of those actually stays in the system. He will likely ride the pine if he makes the team. Like I said, if he does make the team it will be to replace Jacob Cruz, who actually actually got fewer AB's than Timo did last year. I think Freel will probably takeover the backup 1b job and there will be little need for Timo at 1st. I would also assume that Timo's status could be determined on whether they want Chris Denofria to spend another year at AAA.

I stayed at the same hotel as the Sox in Texas and ran into Timo at the hotel bar. We shot pool and ended up closing the bar. A girl from New York who was a Mets fan asked him if he shouldn't be up all night since he had a game in the morning. He joked that he wasn't going to play anyway.
He was a really cool guy and paid for all the drinks.

Good Luck Timo! We Love You!
And SaltyPretzel, that is another reason why Timo rules. (How was he at pool? Did he beat you? I guess while I am at it I will ask another question. Timo spoke English, correct? I have read numerous accounts that said he did speak English, including in a meeting with a fellow WSI poster, but I still hear people that say he doesn't. Hopefully you can set this straight. Thank you.)
