Red Sox owner Tom Werner is making a video to send to Clemens asking him to return

http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/wilbur/sports_blog/blog/2006/02/07/retro_rocket_push/index.html

As Callahan points out, this drive for Clemens is not being initiated by the Red Sox' baseball operations people, but by Hollywood's own Tom Werner, who's certainly got his eye on the best baseball script since the 2004 Red Sox penned one that every single Tinseltown producer would be forced to turn down as implausible. But following an offseason in which the Red Sox did their best to get younger, exactly what sense does it make to sign a pitcher pushing 44 years old?

HaHa, he should just stand outside Clemen's house with a boombox over his head playing Peter Gabriel (sp?).

You don't think he'd appreciate a lovely fruit basket? Or a valentine?

I hope that there was a Signed blank check included with the DVD... or maybe we're looking at this from the wron prospective and this is actually a video that Roger doesn't want any one else to see! You know blackmail him into a Red Sox Uniform?

Is it complete with a voice over rendition of "Return to Me"? (I want to say
by Dean Martin, but I can't remember.)

You are correct, sir. Dean Martin it is. But I'd suggest another Dean Martin song that might be a better fit--"Memories Are Made of This."

Send in Pete Carroll to recruit him, or better yet Texas football coach Mack Brown. Make sure the video features a few of Roger Clemens's favorite country singers. It will take a lot of TLC, and probably a lot of money, to lure Clemens back to Boston.

The idea of sending a video to Clemens -- as reported by more than one media outlet yesterday -- to show him how much Boston fans want him back is important to the recruiting process, because the pitcher's agent, Randy Hendricks, indicated to this reporter a few weeks ago that the sentiment of Sox fans is something Clemens will weigh heavily. Hendricks wants to get a true measure on how Clemens would be received in Boston.

Told that a possible Clemens return was being positively received in Boston, and asked how much that meant, Hendricks said, ''A lot, and thanks for the update."

I've seen Fever Pitch and it's brutal. I really don't see how that could lure Clemens back to Boston, but if it works, more power to them.

I thought all Bostonians still hate the Rocket for signing with the Yankees?

they want to see him in the Hall wearing a Boston cap ...... the only reason they want him back. Pathetic I think, but I do like the olive branch theyre extending him. I replied to this earlier, but my post seems to have disappeared

Hangar

The Hall of Fame decides what cap a player wears and it is pretty obvious it will be Boston as Clemens spent 13 years with the Red Sox winning 198. He certainly isn't going as a Blue Jay, Yankee or Astro.

Time heals most wounds and I think Clemens and the Boston fans made peace when he made his last regular season start at Fenway in 2003. Plus the Red Sox winning it all has kind of mellowed the Fenway Faithful

The big loser in this saga is Dan Duquette who of couse made the infamous "twilight of his career" comment after Clemens signed with Toronto. Dan can't even get an interview for another MLB job ( even Grady Little has resurfaced )

The hours approaching, just give it your best
You've got to reach your prime.
Thatís when you need to put yourself to the test,
And show us a passage of time,
We're gonna need a montage (montage)
Oh it takes a montage (montage)

Show a lot of things happing at once,
Remind everyone of whatís going on (whatís going on?)
And with every shot you show a little improvement
To show it all would take to long
Thatís called a montage (montage)
Oh we want montage (montage)

And anything that we want to go from just a beginner to a pro,
You need a montage (montage)
Even Rocky had a montage (montage)

If "fan sentiment" is a factor, all Roger has to do is remember how he was treated in the game vs. Pedro in the 1999 ALCS and he'll be staying the hell away.

no longer an issue

He seems to have erased the memories of a few obnoxious fans taunting his wife at Fenway when Clemens was in town with the Yankees. He came to understand that the sight of pinstripes brings out the worst in the extreme fans.

I thought it might be Ron Schueler who decided to get this guy:

instead of Clemens because he thought Roger was "over-the-hill".

I'm sure the MLB-leading ERA he posted last year has nothing to do with their interest.

For a team with really no budget constraints and a need for pitching this would be a wonderful move. Right now the Red Sox have Beckett, Schilling, Wakefield, Papelbon and Clement, with Arroyo in the back and Wells likely to be traded. There are question marks around a few of those guys (Beckett's injury history, Schilling's age and injuries, Clement's mental state, Papelbon's readiness for a full season) and to get a pitcher who with the rest all the way to May 1 could be a huge addition would be a fine gamble for them. They sign Clemens they become the favorites in the AL East.
