Here's an article from MLB.com in which Alex Cora mentions the Sox WS victory and Ozzie quite a bit while explaining why the league is moving toward this style. While I think he has some points, I still have complaints with us being called small ball, because we relied on the big homer a good amount although not as much as in the past. Like Ozzie put it, it's smart ball, we sacrifice ourselves to gain better scoring opportunities, and steal bases when we have the right situation, but it was all about doing it right. We had great fundamentals in the field and on the base paths, and came up with the timely hits and most importantly relied heavily on great pitching. Some guys focus on how we used Pods as a huge part of offensive gameplan, but they fail to mention that without a rotation that was five deep all year with quality arms we wouldn't have been in the position to use the aspects of small ball hoping to win the low scoring close ones.
