I received an email from Kurt Hasenbalg from the Sox, the ticket agent who put together last year's Core of the Core Patio Party. He'd like to know our feelings about doing it again this year. This is an open invitation for you to express your sentiments. I'm open to any suggestions you may have for this year, too.

Should we do it again? Preferred time-frame? (I've asked Kurt if there are any dates that are better on the Sox' end.) Anything else? Let us know.

I'd LOVE another COTC Night; good times had by all last time!! :bandance:

As for when would be best for me (and as a fellow teacher, you'll probably agree with this, Hal), anytime in June-August, and it doesn't matter if it'd be a weeknight or weekend. Keep us posted.

Either way, my interest is piqued.

It'll probably be a Royals or Rays game, I can't see a big enough block being available for a "good" or popular opponent. I recently bought a block of 50 tickets to the Red Sox game on Saturday night and wound up in three rows in two 500 level sections.

It'll be a blast, I'll unload my regular tickets for the game so I can hang with the Core!

You purchase a ticket which allows a pre game meet and greet with fellow WSI'ers, including food and drink, then to the seats to watch the game. It's a great time, truly. Maybe, we'll get Moose again this year, along with Brooks!!!

I just checked my email, and I received a reply from Kurt. Here's what he had to say:

"You guys can have your pick of the litter for any date in Apr. or May (except Opening Day & Cubs, of course). June - Sept. may be trickier, but we'll try to figure something out if there's a game-date you all like. I'm also open to facilitating more than one outing for you this year if there's interest there as well. Let me know."

Depending on the size of the group, April/May may be safer for getting the tickets we'd need. Feedback?

They have $4 off Wednesdays (May 10 Anaheim, June 7 Detroit). I think you get a discount if you sign up as a season ticket holder as well.

Frank's return (May 22) would be the best choice for April / May.

I missed out last year (had tickets in the Upper Deck already) but would be interested this year. I have full season tickets but will sell my tickets if given notice.

Thanks for putting this together.

Any of the Oakland games, 5/23 - 5/25, would be a'ight by me...

I would all for this too. I think it would be more fun because I was new last year and new no one from here. I still really dont, but hopefully by core of the core part 5 Ill be set.

I would be all for going again. I also think it would be cool to make this a monthly or bi monthly event, The cost was not bad when you figure dinner and beer were provided. I think it would be a good way to get together and show our support. I too would say late may, the Frank game, would be a great idea because it allows the college kids time to get back in ( most are done early may).

Look forward too it.

I'm not going to be on the computer much this weekend since I'll be busy at Soxfest, but I would also like to hear how much sentiment there is for having at least one other outing. Remember Kurt did say, "I'm also open to facilitating more than one outing for you this year if there's interest there as well."

For the April/May dates, how is the sentiment towards something like Monday, May 22 vs. the A's? I'm personally kind of leaning towards that one because it's Frank's first game back, assuming he plays.

Obviously you don't understand the definition of the word "ditch." I didn't "ditch" you guys this weekend. I told you all more than a week in advance that I had to cancel my going to Soxfest since my boyfriend was coming to town (and we're having an awesome weekend, mind you). That's not "ditching." Ditching would be if I were not to even tell you about the weekend plans, and that you would have expected me to arrive, but ultimately not even seeing me for the entire event. THAT is what ditching is! It looks like DumpJerry knows exactly what I was referring to.

Ditching is what I did to the folks at the bar last night. I've been fighting a cold for the past week, which is bad enough, but then I managed to throw out my back yesterday. I spent the evening in bed...oh, except for answering the phone for the brave soul who called my room just to let me know I'm a "fat ****." I'm pretty sure this is the same idiot who emailed me the same critique of my physique last year from his daddy's work email address.

The thing I love is that he could have done it to my face but instead used anonymity to conceal his identity. No guts, so as I told you on the phone pal, "**** you."

It was probably the guy in the Cubs hat we razzed in the Atrium bar last night. Classless people that they are.

Feedback?

Down with it, as long as it's not the long April homestand. That's our wedding/honeymoon...although maybe I can get Kris to change the date.

Yeah, I'm interested in this too. I went to the Web site and it lists the food--ribs, chicken, hamburgers, dogs, etc.--but no price, probably because it's going to go up. Can anyone who went last year remember how much it costs, just to give us some idea?

Of course, if I'm flying in from Arizona for this, I don't think the ticket price is going to throw me all that much. And with unlimited beer, they might actually lose money on me! :gulp:

It was $41 last year. That included the party and game ticket in the outfield. Parking was not included (extra $17).

Wasn't there an option last year to just buy the ticket for the patio party for the people that already had a ticket to the game? I might have that situation this year if the day is 5/22.

Greetings Gentlemen –

Due to the smashing success of our first Core of the Core Night last year, we are in the early planning phases for Core of the Core Night ’06. I have been working w/ Hal Vickery from WSI on establishing a date and wanted to make sure all members from SoxTalk.com as well as SouthSiders.net are included as part of the outing. At this point the date we have selected for the event is May 22 – the return of Frank Thomas. I was also able to secure a price break for the outing at $44/ticket which will include a pre-game Patio party ticket as well as a Lower Res’d. seat. At this point none of the logistics are in place to take ticket orders yet, but I wanted to make sure you were all made aware of the date and could pass the info along to your appropriate websites. I have attached last year’s flyer as a point of reference.

Hope all’s well and contact me w/ any questions/concerns/ideas on how to make the ’06 event even better than ‘05. I will be in touch.

As for a second party, we might not be able to get the same price break, but he hasn't ruled out the possibility as yet.

If someone started talking about something not related to the game, did everybody yell "Dude, What's the Score?!?!"

If somebody started a conversation and the person in front of them didn't approve, did that person turn around and hold up a life-sized poster of Gary Coleman with the text "Who Cares?"

I only missed the X-Mas party because I had a painful throat infection. I teach kids for a living...I tend to have a greater possibility of not feeling as good than the rest of you who aren't either teachers or doctors! And I even called ChiSoxGirl to tell her about it! I also told you guys over a week in advance about the Soxfest thing.

Meanwhile, YOU promised to be at our last gathering with the trophy before heading to your little gig and did not even tell one of us you weren't coming. The event before, you were severely tardy, as you said you'd be there at the start of the party, but I called you 3 1/2 hours into the party to find out you were at the Blackhawks' game instead! ChiSoxGirl and I were ready to write detentions for you.

Of course there should be a 2nd one. Having one on a FRIDAY would be great for those who cant come on a weekday.
Fri 7/7 Boston
Fri 7/21 Texas
Fri 8/11 Detroit

You can throw out the one against Boston, because there's no way a group outing of our size can be alotted for that game. The one against Texas most likely would be the easiest out of those four to plan this for.

Kurt is in group sales. He was in group sales last year, too. It's just that there was for some unexplained reason, a mad crush for season ticket sales in October and November, he along with the rest of the sales staff, pressed into duty for individual sales. That is how you were working with him initially.

He didn't miss anything. The word is that it would be difficult to get dates from June-Sept., but it was not ruled out.

You can forget the Boston game. I bought 50 tickets to the Saturday Boston game and the best I got were three different in two adjoining sections in the UD. I was near the top of the wait list for group sales to the game, so I doubt they have 300 seats together.

Also, I figure that they would want to sell us a game that is not a major attraction (like the Royals last year) to ensure ticket sales that would not otherwise occur.

Throwing out a suggestion for either the Detroit (Aug 11 - 13) or Cleveland (Sep 8-10) for the second game (August would be better for the college kids but Torn said June - August would be tough) for people who can't make it during the week.

For weeknights, Minnesota (July 24-26), Kansas City (Aug 14-17) and Tampa (Aug 29 - 31) might be the best hope for non weekend summer dates.

The White Sox are only in town for a week & 1/2 in September so there are not many options (Cleve, Det & Seat).

Hopefully we can get a package either against KC (Aug 14-17) or Detroit (Aug 11-13) so people from out of town / off for the summer can make it.

Thanks again for putting this together.

If the price of CotC is in the $40 to $50 range with ticket, that is excellent. Got the group prices today....see below.
Patio Parties: Open 1 1/2 hours before the game and 1/2 hour into the game. Enjoy unlimited beer, wine, and soda, along with the Bertucci's delicious menu. The cost is just $40 for adults ($30 on all Wednesdays except NYY and STL) and $20 for children/seniors. Game tickets are 1/2 price for patio groups of 20 to 1,200.
Warning Track Parties: All the benefits of a Patio Party, but you get to stay in the Warning Track area for the whole game for just $77 per person. Available for a minimum of 50 guests.(wonder if this includes food and drink for the entire game?)

I think the first priority has to go to anyone who has already purchased a damn plane ticket from Arizona.

Seriously, I really think this could be a problem, having witnessed the increased demand out here for Spring Training. And I'm not sure the priority to members thing would work. What if some people join just to get tickets to the party? That's not something that could be easily proven. Maybe a limit on how many tickets each person can order?

Well, I could get behind that. Don't forget; I work at home, so stuffing the ballot box is nothing for me. :D:

But here's another thought: I've never been to a patio party at the Cell, but I went to a bunch of them--even organized a few--at Old Comiskey. I could be wrong, but I believe they used to offer you the option of either going to your seat or staying in the patio area. So just suppose for a minute that they did get more requests than they have tickets available. Maybe they'd consider letting the folks who don't get tickets just stay in the patio area for the whole game, assuming the field is visible from there? That wouldn't bother me one damn bit; to me, the important part is getting together with a bunch of friends (none of whom I've ever met, unless some of the Arizona WSI'ers make it there!) for a good time and a good Sox game.

BTW, my favorite patio party involved, of all things, a group of Northwest Side Sox fans. We had a rented bus with a keg on it for the trip up and back. Very nice! :gulp:

Exactly. As for how many they could accommodate, well sure, if you're talking about 500 extra folks. But a facility that routinely caters for thousands a night could handle a hundred or so more, I'm sure. But they DO make you go to your seat? I don't remember that being the case at the old park.

You are able to rent out the area and stay there the whole game, but that costs extra. I think something like $75-80 a person, and the whole party has to do it. Standard fare is for groups to have the pregame and go to their seat afterwards. Thats IIRC.

Okay, I think that's the Warning Track plan. As I said, I've never been to a patio party at the Cell, so maybe it's different now. At Old Comiskey, IIRC, they had several patio areas, and each afforded a view of the field. I don't know if that is still true.

All of this Frank Thomas drama could make his reception at Core of the Core II from us very interesting.

What do you mean from us? Didn't you get the memo? You're not invited.

Not the nicest way to speak to the girl who was the first one to back your Official Pre-Season Gathering idea last week! By the way, what's the status on that?

It was in teal. I have no idea what's going on with my "party," I think we should just piggy-back one of Henry's "trophy" parties. What do you think?

I know it was in teal; no harm done.

As for your "party," resurrect the thread and see what kind of response it gets this week. Wasn't the tentative date this Friday? If so, maybe now that it's closer, people will consider it more seriously. I liked the Dugan's party at Christmas time- pretty central location for everyone, easy to get to, and parking isn't a disaster. Maybe establish Dugan's as the place for this one too, and see what happens.

By the way, I'm loving the Ron Kittle book you got me.

Waiting impatiently..... Would it just be WSI members and friends or whatever of them on the Patio before hand? I already see Patio Party tickets on ebay for 5/22? Kinda wierd. Nonetheless, cant wait!!

There are usually several parties going on at the same time. The patio area is pretty big.
