Can't hurt to take a flier on the guy. Put him in Charlotte and see what happens.

Yeah hes worth a shot. He was a real gem about 7-8 years ago, actually won Minor League player of the year for like 3 years in a row. Never really been able to put a great season together in the bigs, but ya... worth a shot right?

Didn't he win Major League Rookie of the Year? All I remember other than that, was he was involved in a trade along with Roberto Hernandez way back when.

I still hate him for beating out Magglio that year.

He may be able to dethrone Borchard as greatest Knight in Charlotte history.

Wasn't that White Sox legend Mike Caruso's rookie year too?

It was also in the "Sox invite 19" thread.

Seriosuly. If the news is 30 seconds old, it'll be on WSI.

Maybe we should have another Ben Grieve thread in the minor observations forum. Afterall, it was a minor league signing.

To me any former cub is perfect...for picking up the balls after the Sox guys take b.p.

Outfield insurance in case of injury or a trade. Low risk. Maybe Joe Borchard should be a tad concerned!

Jose Canseco writes in Juiced that he could have turned Ben Grieve into a superstar if he had given him steroids. He thinks Ben Grieve is the perfect candidate for improvement from 'roids.

Then he pretty much attacks Grieve for not doing steroids, saying he'll never amount to anything because of it.

6 years ago I would have been thrilled, if we have to resort to him now, then we are having a bad season

Why the teal? That's where it really should have been put.
I think one of these is in order:

Well if someone as socially upstanding as Jose Canseco says this about someone....who am I to argue:rolling::rotflmao:

That's how I see this: Joe Borchard insurance.

It'd be nice if Grieve turns out to be 2006's version of Widger. I'd like to see him be rewarded for passing on the juice.

You know, the funny thing about Canseco is, you can still get strong as hell by lifting weights and running. 'Roids could be part of the process, but take it from me, you don't need steroids to REALLY improve you're strength. To me Grieve is a lazy ass. He never hit the weight room or looked to improve his strength IMO. He's skinny as a rail and got complacent with the ROY award.

This was my goof. I had meant to put this in the Minor Observations thread but was bit too quick on the draw. Sorry 'bout that.

Ex-Cub factor should be noted here. Do we really want this guy?
