MEXICO CITY -- Los Angeles Dodgers (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=lad) first baseman Nomar Garciaparra (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5706) will play for Mexico at the World Baseball Classic in March. The native of Whittier, Calif., qualifies because of his Mexican parents, Mexican baseball league president Alejandro Hute said in a newspaper interview published Saturday.

Well now Nomar just increased his chances of being injured before the season starts.

I also thought Nomar was Italian.
This whole WBC thing is pure and total trash. I'm with SOXintheBURGH, I can't wait till this whole thing is over, or at least until Bud-lite realizes that this was one his worst ideas ever.

Nomar is a Mexican American. In fact he got his first name because his father, Ramon, named his son by spelling his own name backwards.

actually Nomar is his middle name. His given name is Anthony

when he was first called up in 1996 the Boston writers didn't talk to him because they thought he didn't speak English.

BTW Ted Williams considered himself to be a Mexican player but nobody knew that until he told Nomar a few years ago

Teddy Ballgame's mother was Mexican.

Teddy Ballgame's mother was Mexican.

Yes she was, but again Ted never shared that info with anyone. Leigh Montville's wonderful book on Ted goes into detail never before known.

Ted Williams considered himself to be a Mexican player...
The Mexican team should thaw out Ted's frozen melon and play him instead of Nomar - for one thing, there's no danger of Williams tearing a groin muscle!:redneck

I'm with you on that. Never would have thought that his mother was Mexican. I believe Ted Williams was from San Diego.
