Royals ‘Juiced’ in ’99? (http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/baseball/mlb/kansas_city_royals/13623737.htm)

But Royals slugger Mike Sweeney said on talk radio Friday and to The Star that he was approached by friends on the team who had “the juice.”
“In 1999, my career was in the crossroads and I was converting from a catcher to a first baseman,” Sweeney said on KCSP’s midmorning show with Tim Grunhard and Doug Franz, “and I had some friends of mine that I played with at the time in KC that said, ‘Look, hey, I picked up the juice. It will help you be stronger, it will give you a better longevity in your career. Do you want to take it?’

The 1999 Royals? They didn't even win 40% of their games that year.

Wow...what an outfield...Dye, Beltran, and Damon.

Wow, never thought about that. And they still lost that many games.

Probably has something to do with their starting rotation of Jose Rosado, Jeff Suppan, Jay Witasick, Kevin Appier, and Blake Stein. Also got a few starts out of Mac Suzuki and Chris Fussell.

Wow, that's bad.

Heh, that team hit .282 and still lost 97 games. What a godawful rotation they had.

I feel sorry for Mike Sweeney. Except when he goes 4-5 w/ 2 HR against us.

But the juice helped him hit the ball harder to the shortstop.

When your rotation is that bad, I think it's only fair to allow the hitters to juice.

Hey, let's be fair... it was the juicing that kept them from losing a cool 100.

Cheating bastards.
