View Full Version : Who would you build a franchise around?

Baseball is obviously not like basketball where a team can really be built around two guys, but none the less, put yourself in this situation.

You are a GM of a new expansion team. You can pick ANY one position player and ANY one pitcher to be the first two players on your team. Who would you pick?

POSITION PLAYER:

OF Vladimir Guerrero
Hes 25 and hes proven he can flourish with a weak lineup around him. Hes coming off his weakest season ever, but still I think he is the man I would want.

PITCHER:

SP Tim Hudson
Hes 26 but has only been in the bigs fir three years. I think he will be the **** and surely win a Cy Young award in the next couple years. Hes young and could be a great ace for years to come.

POSITION PLAYER: A-Rod. He too is only 26 & getting that kind of offensive prodution out of a great defensive SS is impossible to pass up on.

PITCHER: I have to agree with you on Hudson. He might be the most valuable pitcher in baseball, when you factor in age.

A-Rod and Freddy Garcia.

Offensive is a toss up between Puljos and A-Rod

I would agree on Hudson.

I forgot about PAY-Rod, what was I thinking. Good call. Freddy Garcia is ok, but overrated. Pujols only has played one year and it's way to early to call.

I'd say that one season was pretty damned impressive.

Nomar? He's older than his two buddies in the Trio and he's lost a season to injury.

If we factor in salaries I'd take Oswalt and Andruw Jones. Jones is already locked up in a deal that's less than market value. Soemthing like 11 mil a year, on the free market I bet he gets at least what Giambi's making.

I guess A-Rod, but I'm halfway tempted to take Giambi.

Mulder over Hudson.

Yea I really like Giambi, but I didn't pick him cause I prefer someone younger.

Plus you can always stick any big goof who hit at 1st base, try doing that at SS :D:

Here's a list of guys who could fit the profile, offensively:

Sweeney
Pujols
Ichiro
Giambi
Nomar (when healthy)
Pudge
Piazza
Lo Duca?? (this is pretty far out)
Maggs
Sosa (sorry)
Bagwell
Jeff Kent
Ramirez (Manny)
luis gonzalez
juan gonzalez
robbie alomar
vlad
Mientkiewicz (spelling)
Guzman
Rollins

pitchers
Hudson
Zito
Mulder
Buehrle
Garland (if he has a really good year)
Mussina (IMO the best yankee starter)
Lieber (sorry again)
Pedro
Hampton (when he's having a good year)
Morris
Bud Smith (maybe)
Glavine
Oswalt

That's all i have for now. some of these are pretty far out.
