Did anyone catch the entire interview on WSCR this morning with Mike North.

JR mention that the Sox will wear a uniform from the past on opening day.

He also laughed about north comment about Tommy John being hired soon.. So it looks like Tommy John will get the job

There's been talk that the Sox will wear 1906 throwbacks which makes sense for the 100th anniversary of the greatest upset in World Series history.

North really in the loop isn't he. I shouldn't be shocked by the Singleton hire as it was made by the same person that gave North the morning show.

They were the original "throwbacks". Credit Veeck once again for pioneering a baseball trend that is hotter than ever today.

Speaking of the 1906 Sox, if anyone has seen a copy of the "Smithsonian Baseball" book, there's a great full-page picture of Game 5 of the World Series at the West Side Park. It's shot from right field, the Sox (in their blue unis) are at bat and there's a runner at second. The funny thing is that two cops are lounging on the grass, in the field of play, about 15 yards behind the Cubs right fielder.

When was the last time the Sox wore the 85 uniforms in a game? By far those are my favorite of all time.

Ahh, now I recall. Good memory there Fisk. Did they ever wear the uniforms from I think it was 39ish? The ones where the hat had the SOX going down in red with the bat and ball with it. I really doubt they ever wore those.

IIRC, the Red Cubs opened the 2005 season with a "special" version of their home uniform. It had gold trim, because they were "special", and they wanted the rest of the world to know how "special" they were. I wish we were that "special".

Speaking of the Veeck throwback, wasn't it his wife that designed those hideous uniforms? Also they had a home hat very similar to the one shown that is now an alternate, a white cap with a dark beak, except the pinstripes were not there and it had SOX across the front. They only wore them a few times in 1976 because they got too dirty.

Maybe I got this wrong, but that attachment for the hats, says "New for 2006, White Sox authentic alternate cap". I hope they mean this is the hat to wear with the 2006 uniform, and not every sunday, thats an ugly cap

Good scoop. That hat is nowhere to be seen on the official site or the MLB shop. These will be the hats worn with the 1906 throwbacks.

I hate to be picky, but those are the '83 jerseys, not the '85 ones. Granted they're almost identical, but the difference is in the sleeve patches. The '83 jersey has a "50th All Star Game" patch, while the '85 jersey has a "75th Anniversary of Comiskey Park" patch. [sigh] Why do I know this stuff?

Those style of jerseys were worn from 1982 through I think 1986. The only thing different about the 83 jersey versus the 85 jersey were the commerative patches on the sleeves.

And yes it was Mary Francis Veeck who helped design the Sox 'clamdigger' style uniforms they wore from 1976 through 1981.

To protect him from violent Sox fans.Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that's among the funniest things posted lately? :D:

I can't see those '83-ish uniforms without envisioning Luzinski's fat gut and ass straining the elastic waistband. Not a good look for the Bull.

Also, the large numerals at groin-level seem a bit immodest. At least the double-digit ones.

Fenway, thanks for the link. Cool hearing JR say he's in no hurry for the season to start -- I've got mixed emotions myself. Seeing Thome step into the box will probably cure that.

That's what I called them - "Pajamas."

However, those uniforms were not tucked, and they made even the skinny players look fat.

The 1906 ones are belted around the waist, and the tops are tucked, which does make a difference. It is a cleaner, more polished look.

I'd like to see the Sox wear the red pinstripes sometime but I think they're gonna highlight the 1906 team this year. It'd also be nice if they wore the pajama ones for the 30th anniversary of the Southside Hitmen next year. Imagine Jim Thome in those suckers....Yikes!:o:

Yes and no.
The Sox will wear them every Sunday home game.
However, much like in 2001, the Sox will also wear the 1906 throwbacks every Sunday. I know what you meant, but this hat will never be worn with the regular jerseys. The bill is navy, it wouldn't match.

I liked them too. Chet Lemon and Alan Bannnister made those uni's look cool. Especially the former. I especially like the one without the collar. I think they were netted. Maybe that was just a practice jersey.

2007 is the 40th anniversary of the 1967 team (Horlen, Peters, John, Ward, Hansen, Martin, Buford)

It's the 35th anniversary of the 1972 team (Wood, May, Allen, Menton, Gossage, Forster, Tanner...)

and the 30th anniversary of the 1977 team (Zisk, Gamble, Wood, Lemon, Soderholm, Stone, Johnson...)

I'm pretty sure Brooks is already thinking about this.....
