With Sutter being elected to the HoF yesterday it reminded me of when the Cubs first caught the national eye in the 70's and you can blame

On the old Game of the Week, NBC fell in love with Wrigley Field and would feed games from there back East every chance they got. In those days NBC could not show a game in the home markets and they also always had a backup game in case of rain and if the Cubs were at home on a Saturday, NBC would be there. ( another reason was NBC had a remote truck based at WMAQ so it was easy for them.

You can also blame NBC for the love affair with Fenway Park as well. Both parks maybe dumps but they look great on television as did the old Boston Garden.

I remember as a kid, wondering WHY they were always on game of the week, despite mostly being a pretty bad team. It was at that moment,
somethings just didnt add up ........

Fenway didn't become a shrine until the 1975 World Series. Suddenly the nation fell in love with it.

I used to laugh when tourists would take the tour at the old Boston Garden and when the saw it in person they said "this is it?" It looked wonderful on TV but it was an absolute rathole.
