Im having a hard time finding any information about him on google.

His name is Anderson Gomes, the White Sox signed him the same day they signed LHP Chad Bentz apparently.

He plays OF.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im assuming he is from a Latin American country, probably the Dominican, with that last name.

Too bad its not Johnny Gomes, lol, then we would be on to something. Theres also a Wayne Gomes that never fulfilled his potential as a pitcher.

Not sure. The only thing I can find on him is that he's 20, with no professional numbers. I wouldn't expect him to be in the major league camp.

Best I can figure he is Brazilian and he has been playing in Japan the last couple years for Fukuoka. Most of the listings I can find are for an Pitcher named Anderson Gomes but I read he had arm trouble. So I'm assuming he switched to OF.

Where did you find this out? I can't find any info on this signing. And I can only find him as a pitcher, not an outfielder.

Thats pretty darn fast, and could easily put him in the top 1% in the league. I cant wait to see him running next to JO this spring.

"Pitcher Anderson Gomes underwent a surgical operation to remove the pin in his right elbow that was placed there after he fractured it in June last year. He'll be in the hospital for up to 1 week, and will resume practice after that. "

I guess Tad must have given KW a recommendation to take a flyer out on him. Well, he would have been the fastest pitcher in the history of baseball...I doubt he will make it to the Sox, but he might be the first Brazilian to ever play, right?

This story reminds me of Brooks Kieshnick or Jason Dellaero.

This sounds like a pretty good signing... stick the guy in AA and see what he can do. Look what happened with Owens, everyone thought he was too old to play ball or progress any as a hitter.

I like it. Brandon Backe was drafted as a 2B and played there up to AA I believe when he converted to a pitcher, so who knows, anything can happen.

Did you know who Bobby Jenks was a year ago?

KW and crew must know something that no one else does. Or Gomes' arm could heal like in the movie "Rookie Of The Year"

I doubt it. In Japan the major league players avoid the minor leaguers like the plague. Camps are kept very seperate and there would be few opportunities to scout your own minor guys. Management likes it better when you don't know just how ready the guy behind you in the organization is (or isn't.) They think it motivates you more.

Does anyone know what OF position this guy plays (RF/CF/LF) ?

from searching on google and reading some of the japanese articles on him, it seems like they were very high on him. hopefully his arm holds up and he could be a great pickup for our outfield in the future, or even trade bait.....
