MIAMI (ESPNdeportes.com)-- Manny Ramirez doesn't think he'll be traded to the Baltimore Orioles, or any other team for that matter. Now he's getting used to the idea of being in a Boston Red Sox uniform for a long time to come. "There will be no trade, I'm staying in Boston, where I'm familiar with the system and where I have a lot of friends, especially David Ortiz," Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com while in Miami on personal business.

This guy needs more attention than a newborn. He wants to be traded, then he realizes he has friends on the team, then he wants to go......

Send him to KC and be done! We may never hear from him again.

This is off topic, but does anyone know who the Johnny Damon mystery team was, that was offering more than NY? Just wondering

Hmm, I didn't care about Manny Ramirez when he demanded a trade and I still don't care about him now. Imagine that.

Boston media reaction is a big yawn.

The Globe buried the item in a story that Ortiz expects to get a contract extension and the Herald suggests that Manny by using the word contender in his statement doesn't want to go to Baltimore.

Ortiz expects new deal (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/01/06/ortiz_expects_new_sox_deal)

David Ortiz's distress at the breakup of a World Series winner, most notably the departure of Johnny Damon to the Yankees, has not shaken his desire to prolong his own stay with the Red Sox. Ortiz said last night he believes there is a good chance he will sign a long-term contract extension with the Red Sox. (By Gordon Edes,TodaysGlobe)

As it dawns on him that he may not be traded at all, or, even worse, traded to a team that he is reluctant to play for, Manny... [more (http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=120150)]

this didn't take long

"Meanwhile, Ramirez's agent, Greg Genske, told FOXSports.com Thursday night that Ramirez would consider waiving his no-trade clause for the Orioles or another team, discounting Ramirez's statement to ESPNDeportes.com that he was 'staying in Boston.' ...Genske, however, said he called Ramirez after learning of the slugger's remarks, and Ramirez denied making the comments. 'If Boston is able to work out a trade with Baltimore or another team, Manny is still open to making a move,' Genske said." -- 1.06.06, FOXSports.com (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5224028)

You guys are too hard on Manny.

This morning at 8 am, he received a phone call from Mike Timlin asking him to play cards tonite. So, he called his agent and told him that he wants to stay in Boston.

Then, about 11 am, he went down to a vending machine and bought some boston baked beans. He bit into one and hurt his tooth. So, he called his agent and said "get me out of Boston".

You can't blame a guy for these things. **** happens.

sounds about right

Keep in mind this all started because he was able to go to a mall food court in Anaheim and buy a pizza slice and nobody knew who he was. He wants privacy yet he invites the media to his penthouse to show off.

He is truly a manchild

Eric Wilbur on boston.com captures it perfectly

We’ve been here before multiple times with this boy crying wolf rubbish. Manny’s happy. Manny’s not happy. Manny wants to be traded. Manny wants to stay in Boston. Manny wants to be friendlier. Manny wants to be left alone. Manny wants to sell his condo. Manny wants to build a new house. Manny’s grandmother is dead. Manny’s grandmother is alive.
Getting a straight story out of Ramirez is like solving the genesis of Good Charlotte’s popularity,

Guys, the whole cause of this was Manny's wife. SHE'S the one who can't stand the "lack of privacy" given. She's even moved out of Boston apparently! What a prick! Yea, she has absolutely no reason to complain when her husband probably makes more in one day than a great deal of us make in a year!

20,000,000 works out to counting weekends and holidays works out to about 80K a day. It is no secret that the wife is unhappy and it is not completly about privacy either.

can't they let this die? Of course not

"I think Manny knows that we have made a good faith effort to meet his ... request," co-general manager Jed Hoyer said Thursday night before the annual dinner hosted by the Boston chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

"We haven't found a deal that works for us. I know that he is happy that we've talked to teams and shown a good-faith effort to trade him."

Maybe Jed will get KW drunk at the dinner and send Manny to Chicago

Why doesn't Ortiz just pull Manny aside, slap him silly and tell him to act like a man? Manny's behaviour would be grounds for dismissal in most other workplaces.
