Now get Crede done (next Wednesday) and nab one or two experienced relievers and we're set.

Wow, What a great offseason by Kenny, I can't wait to see the results! :)

White Sox Wednesday strikes again; not nearly with the magnitude it has in the past, but still...! Great signing by KW, as usual. With each signing this man makes in the off-season, he ensures himself a slightly louder and more thunderous ovation at SoxFest! :bandance:

I just can't figure out if this Wednesday thing is planned or just mere coincidence. I remember posting last week after the Garland signing (on Wednesday) that I couldn't wait to see what happened today. Strange.:D:

Wow. Do you think that KW reads the boards and purposely announces deals on Wednesday just for us?

So cool, we got R-Mac for 2 years and maybe even three. Great offseason by KW. I'm still waiting for the roundhouse kick though!

Nice signing by KW.

Here's the official word:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, January 4, 2006

WHITE SOX AGREE TO TERMS ON TWO-YEAR CONTRACT WITH CLUB OPTION FOR 2008 WITH ROB MACKOWIAK

CHICAGO The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with infielder Rob Mackowiak on a two-year, $5.3-million contract with a club option for 2008, avoiding arbitration. Under terms of the deal, Mackowiak, who was eligible to become a free agent following the 2006 season, will receive $2.25 million in 2006 and $2.75 million in 2007. The White Sox hold a 2008 option at $3.25 million with a buyout of $300,000.

Mackowiak, 29, was acquired by the Sox from Pittsburgh on December 13 in exchange for left-handed pitcher Damaso Marte. He hit a career-best .272 (126-463) with nine home runs and 58 RBI in 142 games with the Pirates in 2005. The left-handed hitter made 50 starts at third base, 31 in center field, 17 at second base, 13 in right field and one at first base.

A native of Oak Lawn, Ill., the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Mackowiak established career highs in home runs (17), RBI (75) and games played (155) with Pittsburgh in 2004. In five major-league seasons, he is a .258 (445-1,727) hitter with 52 home runs and 221 RBI in 593 games, all with the Pirates.

Joe Crede is the White Sox lone remaining arbitration eligible player.

Now go get Crede signed to the same deal. Only problem I see is that Joe might point to Mackowiak and say "I'm the starter, I should get more". But if that happens, go to arb and start looking at his stats......

My source tells me to look for an announcement by Friday about Tejada, no matter where he ends up. The White Sox have their own motivation to wrap things up before the weekend: they'd like to have an announcement that does not conflict with a Bears playoff weekend or the Cubs Convention.

Pcsshhh.. fat chance. You gotta think KW is looking to show up the Scrubbies little "convention" with a blockbuster deal... :redneck

His nickname is not R-Mac, its "Daddy Mack" or "Mack Dad", due to the fact that he had essentially the best games of his career on the day his son was born.

Williams, by the way, has the best winning percentage in White Sox history for a G.M. it's like .533 or around there.

Frankly,I am a little surprised at the size of his contract. 5 million /two years?

I guess his arbitration number would have been much bigger than I thought. But really if he would get that much in arb then what would Crede command?

He will be making 6 times what Joe did last year and he is on the bench.

I don't think so. With the way Ozzie rests players, Rob will probably play 4 times a week. That's almost as much as a regular and he is a left-handed bat who can put up some decent numbers. Plus, he is pretty widely regarded as the best "super-sub" in the bigs. Good deal IMO.

Mackowiak was on B&B around 5:15. I just caught the tail end, but he said it's a relief to be away from a team that basically couldn't afford or didn't believe in multi-year contracts. Boers made some typically ridiculous comment to the effect of: Will you tell everyone you're Thai so we can continue to build the Sox' image as the United Nations of baseball? :?: Trust me, it sounded even dumber than it reads.

Bernstein asked him if he gets tingly seeing footage of the victory parade, but Mackowiak said he lives in Tampa and doesn't get much Chicago sports news. Basically, he's more interested in the 2006 parade. :gulp:

$5M does sound like a lot, but the market this year has been insane.

Regarding Crede's 2 years of arbitration left, what determines that? I'm not the master of contract issues and don't understand why some players have 1 year of arb and others have 2. I also don't understand the whole options thing. I know when a player runs out of options they can't be sent back to the minors unless placed on waivers but that's about it. Is there a set number of options in each contract? Maybe I should just create my own thread...:redneck
