View Full Version : You're Ozzie Guillen, Set Your Rotation!

Here's a chance for all of us to be the manager of the White Sox, be handsome, be energetic, and sound like Toni Montana! In short, here's a chance for all of us to be Ozzie Guillen and a chance for all of us to set the 2006 rotation the way we want it to be set.

Take the six starters that we currently have: Mark Buerhle, Jose Contreras, Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, Brandon McCarthy, and Javier Vazquez, and put them in order, 1-5. Obviously one of these guys will be left out.

Here's mine...

1) Jose Contreras
2) Mark Buehrle
3) Freddy Garcia
4) Jon Garland
5) Javier Vazquez

I'd have B-Mac in the bullpen until the trade deadline, because by then either Contreras or Vazquez should be dealt for another bat.

1. Buerhle
2. Contreras
3. Garcia
4. Garland
5. Vazquez

I'd go with what's listed on the depth chart on the official web site;

1. M Buehrle
2. F Garcia
3. J Vasquez
4. J Contreras
5. J Garland

6. B McCarthy [long relief]

No reason not to keep Garland in the 5-spot, where he thrived last year. Same goes with Contreras, keep him 4th, despite his incredible 2nd half last year [and post season].

12-29-2005, 07:15 AM
1. Buehrle
2. Contreras
3. Garcia
4. Garland
5. Vazquez

But I think Contreras will be traded, so:

1. Buehrle
2. Garcia
3. Garland
4. Vazquez
5. McCarthy

I'll go with:

1. Buehrle
2. Garcia
3. Contreras
4. Garland
5. Vasquez

Good Lord, the Sox' rotation is deep! It's odd that Vasquez is the most expensive pitcher on the roster yet he'll probably be the number five starter on this team.

Buherle- always the day 1 sater, don't mess with success
Jose- Earned #2
Freddy
Vasquez- will thrive in the #4 spot
Garland- started at 5 last year and won 18 games

If Jose gets traded, put B-Mac and 5 and everyone move up....but I think a year in the BP will help him and he's great insurance if someone goes down hurt....still need another LHP to help out Cotts

Mark is our number one until he puts on another jersey.

Contreras earned #2.

I'm putting Jon in the 3-hole because I want Freddy to start the first road series and I don't think Javier is as good as big Jon, so he finishes things out.

I think if we sign Contreras I think this willbe the rotation. BMac will start the year in AAA because thats what Kenny wants to do with him.

I think you have to put Javy at #5. It says alot to keep the 4 horses together.

1. Burls
2. Jose
3. Freddy
4. Jon
5. Javy

For the first 2 months,
Buehrle
Contreras
Garland
Garcia
Vazquez
McCarthy
Then go to 5 man in the middle of the season, then to 6 around August when our pitchers numbers go up.

I think what happens with McCarthy depends on spring training and the WBC. If anybody is showing weakness (weariness) in the top five then he goes on the DL for one or two starts and BMac takes the starts. I don't want to see as many innings in 2006 as 2005 did on anybody.

Until Contreras shows he can be as dominant in a full season as he was the second half of last season, IMHO he shouldn't be a #2.

I really can't imagine Contreras stays with us esp. with the Garland extension.
I think his comfort level with this ballclub might have been reduced now that El Duque is gone. But I could be wrong, as usually is the case:tongue:

How can you say BMac is one of our best pitchers when he has only had a good couple of months? JV has had a great 2002, phenomenal 2003, and a decent '04 and '05. He's the type of pitcher similar to Jose or Freddy, when they're on, the strikeouts keep coming and coming and coming. If Coop can straighten him out as to where he's the same pitcher he was in Montreal....look out.

SoxSpeed22

That puts a whole new twist on the word absurd.Since 3 of our starters (Buehrle, Gacia, Vazquez) are gonna be pitching a month early, I figure go to 6 man early in the year (April). Then go back to 5, when our pitchers start doing worse in August, go to 6 man. I figure that since we have this pitching depth that other teams envy, we should abuse it to the full-out extent.
Oh, and :happybday
EDIT: Change April into July.

The pitcher I'm least confident in having a decent season is Vazquez. Looks like he's struggled for the last 1 1/2 seasons. Also, he gives up alot of HRs - which may be a problem at The Cell. On the plus side, I like his K/BB ratio.

I would keep JC, go with this rotation, and have BMac in the pen ready to step in in case Vazquez or any other starter falters.
