T'was the Night Before Christmas

Twas a night before Christmas, when all through the clubhouse

Not a creature was stirring, not even a bat .
The Sox(oh so white) were hung by the locker with care,
In hopes that St. Repeat soon would be there.

The fans were nestled, all snug in their seats,
While visions of pennants past and called for repeats.
And mama in her visor, and I in my '59 cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s hot stove league.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the Lazyboy to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the paper and threw up at the sight of Mariotti.

The trade of Crash Rowand for Big Jim Thome,
Gave hope and a lustre of the long-ball to come.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Mac the new Cub-Killer , and Vasquez, Javier.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Oz.
More rapid than eagles his basemen they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name(Keeeeed!)!

"On Pods! now, Taddy! now Jermaine and BA!
On, A.J., On Joe and Juan! NOW Big Jim and Paul!
To the top of the HR Porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Bash away! Bash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the World Series fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the Cell-top the rafters they flew,
With the bag full of Wins, and St. Ozwaldo, too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The complete games, grand slams as if needing more proof .
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Out to the mound St Ozwaldo came with a bound.

He was dressed all in pinstripes, from his head to his foot,
As he needed a shave and a manicure to boot.
The collection of "Keeds" he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a smuggler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like chilis , his nose like a churro!
His smart little mouth was drawn up(yeah right) like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was getting white,

Say,....is that snow?

The stump of a bat, he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke from the brats circled his head like a wreath.
He had a brown face and a belly full of fire,
That shook when he laughed, just don't catch his ire!

He was lean and mean, a fighting machine,
And the "Sox" followed him everywhere he's lead
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke many words, some understood, & went straight to his work,
And filled all the Whitestockings, then turned to the Jenks.
And laying his finger AWAY from his nose,
And giving a nod, out of the pen Bobby rose!

He sprang to the top step, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"World Series White Sox 2006, Sounds just about right!"

Merry Christmas to all!!!

Let me also add my holidays wishes to everyone who helps make WSI the finest site for White Sox news, views and information on the internet.

It has been a remarkable, incredible year...a year that all of us will long remember with fond memories, tears of joy and memorabilia. A year where the Chicago White Sox became World Champions.

Man I love saying that!

To everyone who reads this regardless of race, color, creed or gender may the spirit of the holiday season infuse you with joy and meaning and may 2006 be a good year for all concerned.

Let me echo the poster who said to remember those that are currently overseas and those individuals who have passed to whatever may lie beyond the horizon.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas and Happy Festivus (a-belated one)!

As Lip said, it's been a remarkable, incredible year. I've spent 50 other years imagining what a World Series championship would be like, and now I know. As I sit here on Christmas Eve looking forward to the time I'll spend over the next few days, I realize that the warm satisfaction of celebrating with friends and family is much like the feeling of being in the wake of a World Series championship: it simply feels good, and keeps on feeling good.

It's fortuitous at this time of celebration that this is my 1,000th post on WSI. To the WSI community, to the moderators whose patience and passion actually make this a community, and to all Sox fans and their families, I want to thank you for making this space possible.

Merry Christmas, my friends.

I'd just like to add to my compatriots' greetings from across the Atlantic...

May you all have a Merry Yule/Chanukah/Saturnalia/Christmas/KwanZaa/Festivus, and a Happy New Year too.

And may your God go with you.
