Some thoughts after perusing the MLB.com list (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051221&content_id=1285536&vkey=hotstove2005&fext=.jsp)of nontenders.

RP/SP: Ramon Ortiz, Jose Acevedo, Ryan Franklin, Josh Fogg, Dewon Brazelton, Wade Miller
RP:Lance Carter, Dan Kolb, Jim Brower
Other: Miguel Olivo, Alex Escobar, Eric Byrnes

Most intriguing to me is Brazelton. IIRC, this was the #1 overall pick in the draft, and hadn't had injury problems. Could be a Coop/KW special ala Jenks. Also, what about bringing back Miggy to provide C depth in the minors?

And I think KW should 100% resign Escobar, let him get healthy, then trade him away for a top prospect........repeat as available!

Brazelton sounds like a good idea to me also. If he could get his head on straight he could be a good pitcher. Didn't San Diego just trade for him anyway? how could he have been non tendered if SD traded for him? makes no sense to me.

Eric Byrnes
This guy's been on a roller coaster in the last few months - Oakland to Colorado to Baltimore to ???

Maybe the Orioles grew tired of his hot-dogging totally unnecessary headfirst slides.

Sox should sign just so he can't burn us any more.

Franklin and Fogg can be used in long / middle relief out of the bullpen.

If Eric Byrnes would agree to come on as a 4th OF I would consider that option. Maybe pickup Alex Escobar again just so we can try to trade him back to Bowden for another Jerry Owens.

Nobody really thrills me on this list though.

Wasn't Brazelton lower than 1st? I thought he was in the Mauer, Prior draft.

You are correct, sir. Brazelton was taken 3d in the 2001 draft. Behind Mauer & Prior and ahead of such chumps as Mark Teixeira, Casey Kotchman, Bobby Crosby, Jeremy Bonderman, & Noah Lowry.

Alex Escobar, Jose Acevedo, and Lance Carter all re-signed a minorleague deal with their former teams.

Chad Bradford is still out there though

I would be surprised if any team signs Franklin to a major league contract.
