I see that Vazquez is still on the Dbacks roster and ElDuque is still on the Sox roster. I read that the Dbacks wanted to see some MRI's that were taken but haven't heard anything since. Obviously Garland isn't going anywhere until this thing is official.

I read this morning in one of the Arizona papers that they were still waiting on some results from El Duque's shoulder but expect the deal to be official today or tomorrow.

Even if Duque fails the physical, Arizona still might pull the trigger on the deal. They'd be clearing salary, which supposedly is what they need most right now. Duque is just a toss in by us so that we take on less salary.

Although they could use this as leverage to try to get another prospect out of the deal.

I don't think Bud would let teams buy prospects for ElDuques 4.5 million dollar salary.

The poll on www.whitesox.com that asked which White Sox pitcher will lead the Sox in victories in 2006 had Vazquez on there but I just checked it and he has been taken off from the possible choices, so i'm nervous now.

I hope the deal DOES fall through, I think Chris Young will be great, and I want Bmac and Garland to both be in the rotation.

Why? They made the mistake of putting him on there before the trade was official. This deal isn't getting nixed as El Duque not the cornerstone here.

I just figured out that if you take away 2 games for Vazquez last year, where he went 1.2 and 2 innings and gave up 7 and 9 earned respectively, his ERA drops to 3.92. I'll take it for a fifth starter. That's 30 starts with an under 4 ERA.

The deal is now official and Williams said in a conference call tonight that the Sox would be headed to spring training with six starting pitchers. He also says in Mark Gonzales' Tribune story tonight that he has no problems with McCarthy in the bullpen and that it can be a good way to ease the kid into the big leagues.

I personally agree with this and it helps strenghten a thin (for now...) bullpen.

I like this too, though KW did say he would make no more moves after the Konerko deal.

My guess is that unless someone comes to him with a superstar (Tejada) or a truly outstanding package of MLB ready, young talent, KW will just go into the season with all 6.

Either way, I dig it.

Our pen with BMac: Jenks, Cotts, Politte, Hermanson, BMac, 1 more

Make that two more. Ozzie has already been quoted as saying he'd like to at least open the season with 12 pitchers. Again I agree with that thinking especially the way he sometimes burns through a pen. Ideally another veteran left hander and a right hander. However I'll settle for two more good arms in the pen regardless of what side they throw from.

Kevin Walker, Arnie Munoz and Jon Rauch need not apply!

Arnie was pretty good out of the bullpen back in 2004 and I wouldn't mind seeing him in the LOOGY role.
