I think Giambi comes to mind.

It was Bobby Higginson, but I'm pretty sure he's a free agent now (and therefore probably unemployed). As for now, J.D. Drew has to be one of the most overpaid. Oh yeah, and A.J. Burnett.

There's some pitcher on the Dodgers, his name escapes me, who's been sitting on the DL for 3 years and the Dodgers are paying him around $10 mill per year.

Too many. Dreifort is pretty obvious. And just about every free agent signed this year.

Non-Yankee: Mike Hampton.

Hands down, BJ Ryan. That contract will come back to haunt Toronto. That's just a joke.

Its got to be Alex Rodriguez...how can one person be worth 252 million dollars? 25 million per year? That one move has cost the Rangers about 4 years of terrible pitching. With that 25 million per year, the Rangers could have gotten at least 3 good pitchers for 8 mil per year. Now that he is on the Yankees its a little different because the Yankees can afford AROD and 3 good pitchers for 8 mil per year...What in the world were the Rangers thinking?

Yeah I was gonna say Dreifort or Hampton. At least A-Rod is one of the best players in baseball. Dreifort....isn't.

15 Mil for Chan Ho Park:o: When Texas signed him to that deal, how many innings has he pitched in that contract? Total nightmare

Anyone who doesn't play for the White Sox. Think about it. If you didn't win the World Series, you haven't earned your money. Period.

What about Mike Mussina? The guy made $19 million last year! He's a number three starter for almost any team and he made $19 million!

It doesn't completely surprise me Toronto way, way overpaid for Ryan and Burnett because whoever changed their team logo to that needs their head examined with the GM a close second. Looks like they are pitching a new add for Jays Potato Chips.

I feel so bad for Miguel Cabrera on a regular basis, the only reason he's not getting out of Florida is because he's still making about 300k a year (I think i'm not sure) and he's in the upper eschelon of hitters

Not to mention he hasn't been playing his natural position since he entered the majors.

Anyway, Johnny Damon is officially the most overpaid player - 4 years/52mil

Kerry Wood. Not many people get paid that much to be injured.

Kevin Brown almost every year he was with the Yanks, Chan Ho Park, and Hampton. Pitchers who have one decent season can now expect to get 4 year $40 mil deals...

Samson had Delilah cut his hair and he lost his strength. Damon lost his hair, too, and all we Yankee lovers(?) could not be happier. Without all of the spin, JD will be history before he has collected his last $$$$.

Read his book with reference to his 'activities' while his first wife was in labor.
I never wish anyone bad luck but a few months on the DL would be welcome

Being a Sox fan (of a different color!) Jeff's story is the saddest that I can remember. Not as sad as Shoeless Joe but more up-to-date.

His high school catcher, in Dalton, MA, was Dan Duquette(sp?).
I wonder who George the Boss caught!

Kendall is a real "what were they thinking" guy in my mind. He doesn't have a good arm, which sort of neutralizes everthing else since he plays catcher. He doesn't hit for power; he hits singles. Kendall is definitely not what I'd call a top flight cather in the league.

It is clearly dreifort or chan ho park who is the most overpaid. They are both horrible and should not be on major league teams but get paid as much as a super star. Dreifort is a free agent this year though. Other names that come to mind are Eric Milton and Phil Nevin.

Going through this thread really has me thinking. I can't come up with ONE overpaid player for the Sox this year. You might have borderline arguments for one or two slightly overpaid, but that's it. Is there another team in the majors that you can say that about?

I wonder how much the insurance premiums are on the contracts (should the teams be able to get them) for Dreifort, Brown, Hampton, Neagle, etc.

My choices are a toss-up between Hampton, Neagle, K. Brown, Park, and Dreifort...all getting paid more than I'm likely to see in my lifetime for one year of sucking. Heck, those teams could have paid one of us the minimum to do the same :D:
