This deal is INSANE. HE pitched in the NL as a CLOSER, had a 3.94 ERA and blew 8 saves in 36 chances.

It is just unbelievable what crappy relievers are getting nowadays! If this is the market, guys like Cotts and Pollite should be making 5 mil plus within 2 years?!!

teams paying ridiculous amounts for crappy pitchers this off season is definitely gonna come back to bite us on the assneck when we have to re-sign our guys.

On the other hand, that's the market today - better it be like this now than in 2 or 3 years. There is plenty of time between now and then to get back to reality. A few of these big-ticket pitchers flopping should do it. And a few probably will.

It's sort of like our mediocre play from mid-august to mid-september. I was certainly worried and nervous as hell, but as things turned out, not a bad time to slump.

Does anyone think that the success we had this year with our pitching staff has lead to the overpaying for medicore pitchers?

No. This year's FA pitching class was weak as hell and bozo GMs are going out of their gourd to sign anyone who showed even the slightest lick of talent. Pitching is what all the loser teams are after and they will pay anything to get it. The Yankees could have won the whole banana and the same thing would happen.

If last season's starting Sox pitchers were all FAs this season, the whole package woud cost about $45 million in 2006, El Duque included.
