shades of Patrick Roy bringing Stanley to the offices of "Club du Hockey Canadien" after he won it in in Colorodo

Kass is a genius. Something close to what I would have written if I had any ability at journalism

That's a bold move, considering the Trophy probably has the same effect on the Trib that kryptonite has on Superman.

Here's my favorite part:

"However, I did do something ridiculous, but it was the precious that made me do it. I barged into a meeting packed with Tribune executives, daring senior bosses to touch the Sox trophy. As competitive Cubs fans, they politely declined."

Fantastic article!

Cheeky, but not arrogant. Considering the obscene amount of overkill that would come from a north side WS victory, the White Sox and their fans are acting as very classy champions so far.

I'm surprised the building didn't start crumbling. Kind of like the walls of Jericho.

I have a problem with this. I fear that perhaps Cubs ownership has simply forgotten there is such a thing as a World Series or a Championship trophy. Now upon being reminded of it, they actually start attempting to win this mysterious object Mr. Kass showed them. Much like the One Ring, it has a powerful pull, making all who see it desire it. Let us hope such things never occur.

If only it would make the Cubs disappear.

The Tribune only knows of one trophy, The Peter Gammons one :D:

John Kass has made his way into "untouchable" territory as far as I'm concerned. He could start ranting and raving about alien abductions or something crazy like that and I wouldn't lose an ounce of respect for the man.

A woman with an infant in a stroller pushed into the crowd. She brought forth the babe and held it out to us, while making pleading sounds. I figured she wanted to trade it for the Sox trophy. I was about to call the Department of Children and Family Services.

Great stuff!!!:redneck

You've got to wonder what actually goes on over there. Kass is a high-profile writer at the paper and has written Sox-love pieces enough times that nobody could have any doubt about his preferences. He's also made reference to the irony of his being a big Sox fan in the belly of the TribCo beast.

George Knue has hammered the point several times that A Great Wall exists between the corporate offices (that presumably cares about the Cubs) and the newspaper offices (that are presumably vessels of pure truth). Maybe George was right -- Kass wrote that it was a meeting full of executives that he barged into with the trophy.

Ah, what a tangled web we weave!

From now on we must refer to him as John "Kick" Kass. Doing it from enemy territory just takes it to a whole other level.

I don't know of these 'Cubs' of which you speak. There are no Cubs. Move on.

And if I can't buy World Series tickets, oh it just wouldn't be fair

Precious and few are the moments White Sox fans share

Well Kenny is working on the "few" part. Excellent work as always John.

Last month I got to view the Commioner's Trophy at the City/County Building.

However, several years ago, in St Paul, I was enjoying a couple of adult beverages and lunch at O'Gara's Bar when I heard a commotion and a group of people entered from the rear of the bar carring a large item in rolled up in a blanket. What was in the blanket turned out to be THE STANLEY CUP, and one of the locals toting it into the tavern was a member of the New Jersey Devils who was a St Cloud State grad.

I would loved to have seen the looks and reactions from those bigwigs in the Tower when Kass barged in on the meeting with them. I would say it was a mixture of blank stares, annoyance, or uncomfortable smiles. Several who read the article told me that they picture me doing the exact same thing if given the oppurtunity. (They're right  )
