Man, that's brutal...he never had any problems here, and I've never had a problem with him (besides swinging at the 0-2, inside ball-in-the-dirt).

It's fans like these that make people like Carl pissed off. Give him a chance and he won't do anything wrong, he's a good guy.

They still remember an incident that happened between Carl and Jamie Moyer a few years ago that was inappropriate to say the least. I'm less then excited to have those two on the same team.

Are the Sox the first team for him to leave where the fans actually appreciated him? It seems that everywhere else he's been, the fans end up hating him, but here, he was respected widespread and had no problems at all. He was a team player here for sure.

The reception to Carl out here in Seattle has been pretty brutal so far. Radio stations (including terrible FM morning radio shows) have decided to only look at the dinosaurs, his FHM interview, and the Jamie Moyer incident. This is why M's fans are absolutely brutal (i'm generalizing here--sorry goofymsfan, i know you are an m's fan). They are more content losing 100 games a year with "nice" ballplayers, rather then sign a "controversial" player who produces. They keep bringing up the Jamie Moyer incident, but what they seem to forget about that incident was that he hit a homerun off him in that at bat. That is the mentality, instead of looking at the production they are looking at what happened after the homerun. I was debating calling the sports talk radio and defending Carl, but then I remembered I really don't care. If the M's community wants to piss him off and waste the 3+ million they just spent on him, be my guest.

Here is a summary from a google search I did, I believe this was 2001:

After the Red Sox's Carl Everett insisted on crowding the plate, Mariners lefty Jamie Moyer moved him back the old-fashioned way: He plunked him. Then Everett got real old fashioned--in fact, downright Neanderthal. Not satisfied with hitting a home run in his next at-bat, Everett grabbed his crotch after crossing home plate. He also spat toward Moyer. Everett was fined an undisclosed amount by the commissioner's office, but you can bet he'll appeal it.

No worries about the generalization. The fans out here do hold onto things for a long time. They still boo Alex each and everytime he comes to bat or is announced. I never once booed him. I don't like him, but instead of booing him. I just cheered my team on that much more to make a fool out of him. I admit, I'm not fond of the deal with Carl because I see it as the front office's way of saying, "Look, we signed someone." and leaving it at that. I don't see a strong committment towards putting a winning team on the field. There are some players in the minors that are on the verge of being ready to play in the majors. They may get a chance to get some experience if once again the M's fail early on.

I have not been a fan of Bavasi's since he got here and the two people controlling the money of Chuck Armstrong and Howard Lincoln maybe good business people, but they are far from being good Baseball business people. In 2001, when the M's had the best shot of going anywhere, they held the purse strings tight and wouldn't allow Pat to make any moves that could have put the M's over the hump and gotten them farther in the playoffs. They are more concerned with staying within a budget and making a profit than putting a winning team on the field. They don't seem to realize, that if you put a winning team on the field you will make a profit and make up for going over the budget slightly.

Okay, enough of a rant on the M's management and back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Carl Everett was essentially the same as Dennis Rodman in the sense that you had to ignore what he did off the field and the things he said....

In between the lines and in the dugout he gave 100% every game and had some very productive hits for us during the regular season...

While reading the postseason stats in the back of "Believe It!" book by the Trib, I was shocked when I saw that Carl hit .300 in the playoffs, a big reason the bottom of our order was so good in October...

From all accounts, Carl was also a good teammate because he played so hard and he kept his mouth shut and out of controversy when Frank came back... when he had a problem with being moved from 3 to 6 in the lineup and Ozzie told him to look in the mirror, he did and remade himself into an average hitter instead of a slugger...

With Frank's injuries, it's hard to say what 2005 might have been like if not for the crazy man.... So, good luck in Seattle and thanks for bringing a championship to the South Side!!!

Here's to you Carl... enjoy your World Series ring and keep up the amazingly ridiculous comments! :gulp:

Thanks for the time here Carl. The early RBIs and one important character to our character bunch. Also, way to tell Garner off in Game 3. The Sox don't fall for his tricks.

Hey, great for Carl. I think this is a good deal for both sides. Carl will help the M's win a few games and he isn't costing them an excessive amount. He is a good clubhouse presence. I don't think the mariners will be serious competition for the Sox though.

I loved Crazy Carl. He played hard every time out, chugged around the bases as best he could, and before Paulie and Dye heated up, he was our best offensive player for most of the first half. He also had some big hits and started rallies throughout the postseason. Good luck in Seattle Carl! See you on July 31st.
