According to this website, the White Sox have no guranteed money in 2007 or beyond. This doesn't make sense to me. Does this mean every player on our roster - minus Konerko (who we just re-signed to a 5 year deal), Thome (who we just traded for and has 4 years left), and Vazquez (we just traded for and is guranteed $12.5 mill in 2007) - is a potential free agent or faces an option (player, club, or mutual) year in 2007?

Garcia and Uribe are on the books for 2007.

Right, but other than the trades we just made recently, what other trades or contract extensions have taken place? I can't think of any that involved players still on our team. Besides Rob Mackowiak.

Not the guys who will be arbitration eligible - Cotts, Jenks, McCarthy, Anderson, Crede(?) - not really sure who else that might include. Will the Sox have rights to Iguchi, or are their special rules for Nippon League players?

Sox have CO for Iguchi in 2007.

Sox also have CO for Hermanson, Dye and Buehrle in 2007.

Well, exactly. We've made some moves since then that have put us on the books for guaranteed money. There are 12 teams on that list with no money committed at that time. There are also 2 teams according to that site with no money committed for 2006.

There are plenty of arb. eligible and option years for 07. Expect a lot of those guys like Iguchi to get extensions before then.

Sorry, 'CO' means Club Option (as opposed to Player Option).

But will the sox have arbitration rights after 2007, since that'll only be his 3d year or do Japanese players have special rights?

I'm not sure about that. As far as I know, Sox will have the rights to Iguchi via arbitration since Iguchi will only have three years MLB experience after 2007. I don't think it matters how many years he played in other leagues, Japanese or otherwise.

I don't think they do. They don't with Contreras.

No. He pitched in Cuba before pitching in the US. He's only been in MLB for 3 years. I would assume the same rules apply for people who pitch in other places before coming here. There wouldn't be different rules for Japanese players than Cuban players.
