December 13, 2005 -- Three years ago the odds of Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Nomar Garciaparra together in the Yankees' infield were as long as a Beatles reunion.
Today, it's moving toward even money. That's because the Yankees are considering signing the 32-year-old Garciaparra to play first base.
While GM Brian Cashman and agent Arn Tellem refused to confirm or deny an offer has been made by the Yankees to Garciaparra, several industry sources indicated an offer has been made. Full story (http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/58605.htm)

Those stretches he'll be making at first base will be wonderfull for his groin.

The problem for Nomar is if he plays first for a year, he basically has to try to find another first base job for 2007 (assuming it would be a one year deal). No one would want to take a chance on his playing SS or 3B after he spent a season playing first, IMO.

Geez, looking at what Giambi does as a DH, it would make more sense for the Yanks to just bring back Kevin Maas and let him DH.

That's just crazy! Why bring back Maas when Mattingly's already in unifom everyday:rolleyes:

3 of the best SS in the 90's all on the same team... Almost as Impressive as the Heat having Shaq, Zo, and Christian Laitner on the same roster... the top 3 picks from that class.

I'm pretty sure I've done both of those things while playing a playstation game.

The Yankees could get Nomar to play first, trade for Tejada to play second and Steinbrenner could whine about losing again.

Is WLIT going to play 24 hours of silly songs until silly day? That is always the highlight of the season for me.

I heard this on Mike and Mike this morning...let's say they do this deal. It would only be a matter of thime before they pried Tejada away from the Orioles to play second base, and Steinbrenner would then have his complete shortstop collection playing the infield for him.

Why stop there, go get Omar Vizquel for CF, Rich Aurelia for RF, and coax Barry Larkin out of retirement for LF.

Still better than the inimitable Danny Ferry.

I find the whole idea stupid! Why don't they get Nomar and Tejada so you can have a full line up of shortstops, another reason why Steinbrenner is a _______(Fill in blank with anything profound)

Yeah, the Yankees need another big bat in the lineup. What morons. Do they even know what speed is?

Have fun losing to the White Sox again. If you even have the honor.

Nomar to New York heats up

http://www.nypost.com/img/back121405.gif (http://www.nypost.com/sports/sports.shtml)

It threw the unflappable Mike Mussina for a loop. Rough and tough Kyle Farnsworth could have been knocked over by a gnat. Jason Giambi thought it was cool.

Now Nomar Garciaparra has heard Joe Torre's recruiting pitch over the phone.
"I made a couple of calls to [Garciaparra]," Torre said yesterday morning at the Pierre Hotel, where he was on hand for a HELP USA fund-raiser to fight domestic violence.
Torre doesn't phone every free agent the Yankees engage. Full story (http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/58741.htm)

Do it, Nomaahh! How many players get the "over-hyped by the media" trifecta of teams? You'd be a lock for the HOF!

Very strange, Giambi would be the DH. Where does this put Bernie Williams ? Yankmee fans want him to retire while still in a yank uniform, much like the sox fans did concerning Frank. I can't imagine Williams willing to be a full time bench player.

Some Red Sox fans live in a fantasy world.

This website popped up today. Former Napster founder Shawn Fanning, mimicking the Save Manny folks, has created Garciaparra.com (http://www.garciaparra.com/), a minimal web site that asks the user to sign a petition to bring back Nomar. It's an objective bringbacknomar.com (http://www.bringbacknomar.com/) has as well, but they might want to worry about bringing a book on FrontPage back from Border's first.

In other efforts of hallucination, Jack McCaffrey of the Philly Daily Times ponders that the Phillies should go get Manny AND Tejada (http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=15742241&BRD=1675&PAG=461&dept_id=18170&rfi=6)
