A report on AOL written by the Associated Press said that the Red Sox were planning on having 2 General Manager' for next season. It said they were Ben Cherrington and Jed Hayer. That's a little crazy to me, that they can't pick one GM. Not even the Cubs would do something that stupid!

You give the cubs too much credit.

Look up the 1961 Chicago Cubs and the "College of Coaches"

Everybody in Boston now knows the truth Theo still involved.....it is really fouled up

Still for a team with "nobody" in charge, they have had a productive off-season so far

How is Theo still involved? In my opinion, the whole 2 GM thing is a disaster waiting to happen.

I guess when it comes to doing stupid things the Cubs must be the masters of stupidity.

When did Peter Angelos buy the Red Sox?

Didn't they learn their lesson when the "closer by committee" failed? Now they are trying GM by committee?

This is becoming John Henry vs Larry Lucchino. Henry brought the most money to the table but Lucchino brought in Tom Werner and the New York Times. Lucchino has done a fantastic job in making Fenway Park a better place for the fans and has worked with the city to make the area around the ballpark better. Henry is by nature a shy and private person who is more comfortable showing up on Sons of Sam Horn at midnight than dealing with the media. Nobody knows how this will play out but it could get very ugly.

Meanwhile Gordon Edes this morning took a major swipe at Gammons' WEEI remarks about Jerry Kapstein.

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/12/11/his_is_not_a_name_to_dismiss?mode=PF (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/12/11/his_is_not_a_name_to_dismiss?mode=PF)

Say what you will about his suitability to be general manager, but Jeremy Kapstein's name and the word ''laughingstock" never should be invoked together, as they were last week in a radio interview.

The Boston Herald agrees with you

At this stage, quite honestly, you cannot help but burst out in uncontrollable laughter. The upper administration of the Red Sox looks like a slapstick act in which The Trio now goes by a far more familiar name.
The Three Stooges.

It's Sunday night and John Henry sending e-mails again
BOSTON --Boston Red Sox owner John Henry again stood by Larry Lucchino on Sunday, saying the embattled team president would not be stripped of some power in order to lure former general manager Theo Epstein back.
"People currently speculating about a reduced role for Larry Lucchino don't know what they are talking about," Henry said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "It's completely absurd."

The NY Times ( 17% owner of Boston ) throws in their 17 cents

NY Times: Epstein May Return to Sox (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/12/sports/baseball/12chass.html)
"How the new structure will work is unclear. Lucchino would not confirm Epstein's role, but he said in a telephone interview: 'The door has been left ajar for some time. That's obvious to everyone. So we'll see what happens over time.' Was he saying that the door had been left ajar for Epstein to return? 'We haven't replaced him yet and he hasn't taken a position yet, so by definition it's been left ajar,' Lucchino said." -- 12.12.05, Murray Chass, The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/12/sports/baseball/12chass.html)

So if we have 3 GM's who does the GM radio show before every game?:?:

they haven't done call ins with the GM since Lou Gorman

I'll never forget this call

Caller: Did you ever see Jeff Bagwell play?

Gorman: No I rely on reports from scouts and the manager and coaches

Caller: Lou, I drive a cab and me and 2 buddies drove 2 hours to New Britian to see the AA guys, and the people we sat with said he was a sure thing for the majors. I can drive 2 hours and you can't?

Gorman: I am a very busy man

Caller: It's a two hour drive!!!

Gorman: I would make the Bagwell trade again, it was the right thing to do.

Caller: (bleeped)

Now they just have one of the radio guys interview the GM before every game.

the Governor or Mayor doesn't get coverage like this

The Red Sox will hold a press conference at Fenway Park today at 3:30 p.m. to apparently make an announcement about the restructuring of their baseball operations department.

It is expected that Ben Cherington and Jed Hoyer will be named co-GMs, with Theo Epstein possibly returning to advise them

The press conference will be carried live by Channels 4, 5, 7, 25, 56, NECN, NESN and ESPNEWS. On radio it will be carried by WEEI, WRKO, WBZ, WBUR, ESPN 890 and WGBH

What a farce this news conference was

Larry Lucchino sounded like Tom Bodett saying "we will leave a light in the window for Theo" :?:

LL refused to address how long the 2 GM's have been signed for.

Then when asked "Isn't this unusual?" He replied

"No not really, other teams are doing this and then cited Baltimore last year and Tampa Bay this year." :?:

RED SOX ANNOUNCEMENT: Red Sox president Larry Lucchino today announced that Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington would be co-general managers of the Red Sox (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/) going forward. He avoided questions about Theo Epsteinís possible return in an advisory role, saying only the door was still open. http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/File-Based_Image_Resource/dingbat_arrow_icon.gif More ... (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/12/12/red_sox_look_to_get_front_office_in_order/)

The Boston Red Sox have announced that Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington have been promoted to co-general managers, replacing Theo Epstein. No announcement was made on Epstein's future with the team, though Larry Lucchino said, 'the door has been ajar for some time."

This was Larry Lucchino talking, but it might as well have been Tom Bodett, promising to leave a light on at Motel 6. Or the descendants of Paul Revere: ''One if by land, two if by Theo."

So now Larry Lucchino, the hard-driving president and CEO of the Boston Red Sox, has turned into Tom Bodett. Heís leaving the light on for Theo Epstein, and heís promising to welcome his once and future general manager back with open arms.

The Red Sox have become the laughingstock of MLB

I actually just listened to this. I don't know anything about Luchinno, but why did he spend 30 minutes on a call-in radio show complaining about how he is perceived in the media? He really needs to get over himself.

The biggest rumor in town is Lucchino will be out of Boston as soon as the new owner in Washington is picked to help them with the new stadium. He IS the best at doing things like that.

Then Theo comes back as CEO

he didn't help his cause today
