Mets signed first baseman Julio Franco, who had been with the Braves, to a two-year contract.
The deal is believed to be worth a little more than $2 million. Franco started against practically every lefty for the Braves the last couple of years, but unlike Adam LaRoche, Carlos Delgado isn't going to be platooned. Since Franco will be fortunate to get a start every couple of weeks, he's not going to be an option at $1.

A two year deal makes zero sense. Hell with Delgado, a one year deal makes no sense. But this is the Mets, intelligent thought need apply.

WFAN in New York is reporting that Roberto Hernandez has agreed to a one-year deal with the Pirates.
Hernandez wanted a two-year deal and had contenders after him. Maybe he's settling for a one-year deal from a non-contender because the Pirates will give him a chance to close? No word yet, but it's an explanation that makes sense. Dec. 9 - 3:54 pm et

A blast from the past. It would be intersting if he is closing.

Angels designated catcher Josh Paul for assignment.
It makes room on the roster for J.C. Romero. The Angels and Rays are believed to be talking about Paul. It's possible he'll be re-signed to a minor league deal if he clears waivers, but now that they won't have to pinch-run for Bengie Molina, the Angels seem less likely to go with three catchers next season.

Who can forget Mr. No Tag. Sorry to see him no longer in the majors.
