Basically what a lot of people have been predicting for a while - that a lot of mid-range talent is going to find themselves out of work in the near future unless they start accepting lower salaries. Teams seem to finally figuring out that you don't need to spend a lot on Derek Bell when there are a ton of guys out there who are better than Bell who will play for a lot less.

I think it's about time that this message finally dawns on the owners...how long it lasts is anyones guess....Interesting how this sanity comes after the Mariners won 116 after losing A-rod(after losing Griffey and Randy as well)......signing a guy too big doesnt help and having no holes is better than one big bopper, no matter how good that one player is...A-rod had one of the top 3 seasons for a SS last year = last place...Barry Bonds has arguablly the greatest year ever and the Giants dont make the playoffs.....Still I dont think this will last..the owners always start strong only to crumble
