DALLAS -- The Yankees bolstered their bullpen before leaving the Winter Meetings, agreeing to a two-year deal with left-hander Mike Myers.
Myers told MLB.com in a phone interview that he had agreed to terms on a two-year contract with New York, filling the much-needed role of left-handed specialist.

"I'm jacked up for it," Myers said of pitching in the Bronx. "It's going to be a lot of fun. The Yankees are a team I have wanted to play with for quite a while. I'm glad the deal was able to come to fruition."

The deal, which is contingent upon Myers passing a physical, was not officially announced

Until they come up with another lefty, the Marte deal is a bad one.

What's the good in having a lefty if he's not a good lefty? I'd much rather have a good righty in the game instead of a bad lefty.

Arnie Munoz?

He's better-suited to be a reliever anyway and his curve is very tough on lefties.

Corwin Malone? He has the velocity, but IIRC he performed poorly out of the pen in Birmingham compared to when he started.

It shouldn't be too difficult for someone in the bullpen to match Marte's .267 BAA vs. lefties.

Sisco = younger Marte.

Blown saves machine, high K/9, high ass WHIP, plus there's no way the Royals let go of their biggest offseason acquisition from last offseason. (How sad is that?)

I would imagine that job is going to be open come ST unless KW makes a deal, but some of the articles out are saying he's finished shopping. I'd still like for the Sox to bring in another veteran if for no other reason than to compete.

BTW Randar, do you think the Sox screwed with Munoz's confidence too much by bringing him up the first time? I would think if nothing else Ozzie could have a positive influence on him. So far Ozzie and the coaching staff seem to have done wonders in terms of getting the most out of their young players.

I would guess probably a tad less than what we'd ask for Bobby Jenks. That guy just needs some time and he will become a dominant closer.

Well, that argument should apply to Neal Cotts, remember his infamous Yankee Stadium start?

I'm with the people in this thread who say that a good righty is better than a bad lefty.

The Angels made the ALCS (AND GOT THEIR ASSES WHOOPED) without a lefty in their bullpen.

The Sox can easily replace Marte with someone from the minors or the Sox can go ahead and sign Ricardo Rincon or even look @ Urbina because I cant see anyone taking a chance with all the problems he has had. Ozzie is a close friend of Urbina and even helped Uribina out when his mother got kidnapped. Other guys that might come cheap are Julian Tavarez,Al Reyes,Antonio Osuna,Octavio Dotel the last 2 you might be able to sign them to minor league contracts.

No need for another lefty in the pen. We got Cotts and that's plenty. Politte was better against lefties than any lefty pitcher anyway. The Angels pen was superb and had no lefties.

Turns out we just missed out on Myers.

The Sox barely fell short in their bid to land left-handed specialist Mike Myers, who agreed Thursday to a two-year offer from the Yankees.

"It came down to the Sox and Yankees," Myers said. "I was impressed that the defending World Series champions considered me, but I think this move will be good for me and my family and my career."

Oh well. We'll see what KW's backup plan is...
