Just heard on ESPN that the Tigers signed him to a 2 year deal. Can't wait to shell that SOB the next 2 years and watch him have his "anger management issues". Good times, good times.

Good signing by the Tigers, IMO. They really have nothing to lose on this one. Since it's the Tigers, I'm guessing it's something like 2 years, $25 million or so...

The Sox still got it, but the AL Central is gonna be a dogfight next year.

:DJ"Uh-oh!"
Detroit either got a steal, or this is bad for all parties involved, including us. At least Fick and Karim Garcia aren't there.

Actually, if I remember correctly it was 2 years 16 mil. Not a bad deal at 8 mil a year if he can keep his head on straight, but you know that won't happen especially having to play in detroit.

Excellent sign by the Tiggers. It wouldve been nice to see him go elsewhere but oh well. It's gonna be a 4 team fight this year!

I can't imagine Leyland putting up with any of his BS. Who knows if this will work, but I think they needed to get a vet in there to help mentor Bonderman, Ledezma, Robertson, etc...

They're just trying to keep up with the Blue Jays, Orioles and Mets in the Overspending Sweepstakes, I guess...

Also drives up Garland's price unfortunately. If some of these puds are getting the big bucks, what will Garland command? Old butthead Rogers=13.5mil per year, young Garland=15 or 16 mil???

Old butthead Rogers=13.5mil per year, young Garland=15 or 16 mil???Teams like Toronto, Detroit and KC have to overpay. The only way players would willingly go there is if they were getting millions more than anyone else was offering.

That being said, Garland is probably gone next year, anyway. Some moron GM will throw $12.5 - $14 million at him for 5 years and we'll wave goodbye and thank him for pulling his head out of his ass for the last 2 years of service in Chicago.

Umm, the deal is for 2 years $16M not 27. I'm not sure where you got that figure.

I use teal because it won't matter to us and they will cancel each other out for the WC, so it won't matter.

As much of an idiot Kenny Rogers is, this is a good pickup for Detroit. Despite his anger issues, he made his second consecutive All-Star appearance this year. He should be even better pitching in that pitcher's ballpark in Detroit, but the only question will be "Will he get any run support and will he keep his temper?"

I think Rogers is a walking rectum.

Well said, but that walking rectum did a pretty nice job in that little league park in Texas. His numbers could improve by pitching in Detroit.

I hate Detroit, but this is a really good move on their part.

The market has been officially set. An aging, but effective pitcher goes for about $7-8M/yr (Byrd/Rogers). Young, good pitchers with potential to improve go for $11M (Burnett). Which means Garland's market value is somewhere around $11-12M and Buehrle's closer to $13-14. Given age, Contreras might be $10-11M if he replicates last year.

Which is probably why Kenny will go all out to win again this year, knowing that he'll almost certainly have to lose at least one if not 2 of his big guns over the next 2 years unless he can boost revenues yet again.

I wonder how many photograpers Rogers will punch out this year?

Next you know they'll sign Samme, Palmero and get Juan Gonzales again.

Detroit is the strangest team.

So now the 40 plus Rogers, coming off his media hissy fit season, is making as much as any starter on the White Sox staff?

That is pretty funny.

I wonder how much Morris, David Wells, Elarton, Clemens, etc. will get.

I can see how JG must be salivating. However, he has to pitch well enough this year again to justify that money, so it should be a plus for the Sox, even if we lose him after 2006.

Kenny Rogers is a VERY violent man. He will fit right in with the rest of Detroit's population.

The Sox should sign him to be the new PR manager. JR can give him a list of reporters and announcers he wants Rogers to deal with.:D:
