He also happened to get the win in that game. Who will be the second lefty in the bullpen now? I am betting that Damaso will bounce back with a dominant year in 06. I would have rather picked up TonyG or Mueller in free agency and retain Damaso. Leftys are hard to find and very expensive. I have no idea what they will do to fill his spot.

For all of his problems in 2005, let's not forget that he still came through in a few clutch situations, and was DOMINANT in 02 and 03, and good in 04.

Whenever I play back PK's Grand Salami in game 2, one of the things that always catches my eye is Damaso in the bullpen, jumping up and down like a giddy 5-year old. It's obvious that the man had a joy for the game and loved the team.

I'll miss him, and I hope he does well for the Pirates. Hopefully this is a move that helps both teams.

Marte was one of the better KW bargain-bin finds when he picked him up a couple years ago for Matt Guerrier IIRC. He had a rough year last year, but he was great in '03 and '04. Aside from the occasional strikezone-phobia he experienced, he was a great arm in the 'pen.

Any chance he'll be given a chance to close for the Bucs?

Maybe Marte can walk four or five in a row when the Sox visit PNC this summer.

As much as Marte struggled in the last 2 years, when he was needed most in the most important series in 88 years, he stepped up and pitched 2 shutout innings when there was literally no one else to turn to. Thank you Damaso for stepping up when it counted, and also for 2001-2003 when he was literally the only person in the bullpen with any consistency. May you rediscover the form you had in those years with the Bucs.

Well said. There are a lot of short memories out there. I thought Damaso caught a lot of needless grief from fans this year, he's a good left hander on a down year. I remember Damaso and Flash Gordon in '03 anchoring the bullpen and Marte had something like a 1.75 era. Good Luck Damaso!!!

I feel the same way about Marte as I did crazy Carl the past few years. I loved him when he was doing good but I would have traded him myself if I could when he sucked.

You may remeber a game at the urinal in 2004 when Carlos Lee hit a solo shot of Hawkins to tie it up just so Marte could blow it by walking a runner in.
Goodbye Marte, Hello new cub-killer!

I see no point in ripping Marte. He struggled this season, but how many relief pitchers are dominant for three or more seasons in a row? Aside from guys like Rivera or Gagne, basically everyone else has their struggles in between.

I'll remember Damaso for his lights-out 2003 and 2004 seasons and how he stepped up and pitched shut-out extra inning baseball in the playoffs working without anyone to back him up. If the Astros had walked off with that game, I think the series would've come back to Chicago.

Im glad our last memories of Damaso are fond ones...clutch lights out relief work in game 3...and his jumping for joy after PK's slam in game 2. I'll admit I've taken my share of shots at Marte, but I was glad to see him get the victory in Game #3 of the W.S. (he was a little wobbly but he got the outs when he needed them!). Hopefully that boosted his confidence and it will carry over with him to his new team.

I am glad to see him go. He should have been cut from the team in 2004 when he walked Walker home for the winning run at The Shrine. That to me is an unforgiveable offense. For every good performance he had this year he would have 5 bad ones. He had a good 03 and fell apart in 04 and was just plain bad in 05. Good Riddance!!!!!
