I know that AJ, Garland and a couple other players are up for arbitration and I was just wondering if anyone knows how that process works. I know that some players need to have thier arbitration contracts worked by today and I was wondering if that was the case with any of the Sox. If someone could clarify this process for me that would be great.

...but only if that player has declared himself a free agent.

For those players with 6 years service and who have filed for free agency, teams must offer arbitration by midnight tonight (EST) or they cannot negotiate with them until May 1. For those players not eligible for free agency, they have until Dec 20. In the latter case, if they're not offered arbitration, they become non-tendered free agents. The actual arbitration process works out in January and February.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Today's deadline affected Frank Thomas, Carl Everett, and Raul Casanova- none of them received arbitration and cannot re-sign with the team until May 1st.
