Wow. Predictions? I say 55 games, .219, 2 homers, 3 RBI, 1 milllllllllllion K's.

I say we take a chance on him.

I mean, why not? Put him in LF, move scotty to center, and Thome/Konerko/Sammy hitting in the middle of that order could be ridiculous.

"We're negotiating with several teams," Sosa said in comments published Sunday in the daily newspaper HOY, in his native Dominican Republic. "We're going to make it a surprise."

"The Seibu Lions and the Yomiuri Giants both told me that they'd get back to me. The Newark Bears may be a dark horse, but they still have to see if they can move some money around to really get involved."

Followed by 163 examples of talking in the third person, 48 mentions of how happy he is to be playing in Tampa Bay (or wherever), 16 faked back injuries, 27 mentions of how he deserves more playing time and $750,000 that some pathetic team could have better used on batting donuts more valuable than old Sammy...

"I'm at peace because I trust in what I've done in the past. I'm Sammy Sosa and everyone remembers it," Sosa was quoted as saying in HOY.
Why am I not surprised at the last part?

Free agent Sammy Sosa said he's talking with several teams interested in signing him for next season.
Too bad most of them are in the Atlantic League. Sosa said he'll make an announcement about where he'll play sometime after the winter meetings. "We're negotiating with several teams," Sosa said in comments published Sunday in the daily newspaper HOY, in his native Dominican Republic. "We're going to make it a surprise." Dec. 4 - 2:24 pm et

Anybody notice that the source for this story is Hoy, the Spanish-language paper published by the Tribune?

And on and on it goes...

Sammy's numbers have really plummetted since he got caught using a corked bat and really went downhill when the baseball steroid scandal broke. Coincidence?

Is the H.O.F. really going to vote in this 2-time cheater that played on only 1 first place team his entire career?

Honestly....

If this guy makes the hall, and MLB remains adament on keeping Shoeless Joe out, it's going to be a sad, sad day for our Nation's pastime.

The tolerance for cheaters has got to stop......

Don't worry, he's not making the hall; he doesn't deserve it on the merits really, because he played in a homer era, and there was nothing else good about his game - and at that, I don't think he ever won a homer title, did he? And even if he did, he's incredibly tainted on two fronts (that corked bat explanation was incredibly incriminating - if he had only 1 bat, what were the chances that he would pick that one out of 60 if it wasn't intentional?)

Palmerio is iffy, and it will be in many years if he does; he's another one dubious on the merits because he was never a "Great" player. (of course, several recent inductees weren't great either).

McGuire is 50/50, but will get in eventually. He really hurt himself last spring. Personally, I vote nay, because I'm not convinced he was a Hall of Famer playing clean.

Bonds is 100% because he earned it prior; his question will be regarding what to do with the records.

Steve Balboni played in the minors for years - I suggest that Sammy take that role - sort of a circus sideshow.

Include the beaning that broke his batting helmet and adjust the order of the other factors and I think you've got it. I'm not crying for him.

Haha, I love it. A surprise. Like we're all sitting here anxiously awaiting Sham-ME's announcement of where he will suck, errr, play in 2006. It's great because he can play this "surprise" like he's doing some team a favor. So when Shame-ME ends up playing for the Kansas City Royals he can pretend like contenders were lining up for his services but he decided to surprise everyone and go to KC to help them restore some credibility to their franchise.

Go away, you washed-up hack.

I find this funny mostly because I am talking to a friend who is a cub fan online about his hall chances right now.

I hate to say it but unless he gets caught with some concrete evidence, not just speculation, there is no way they can really keep him out. That's why I hope he keeps on playing and submitting himself to drug tests. He has a lot of things on his resume that look bad like the corked bat, the falling numbers, the capital hill thing lumping him in with Canseco, McGwire and Palmeiro. Even Sandberg coming out and ripping him while not naming him in his hall speech. But I just don't think that will be enough to keep him out unless they catch him red handed.

The one I really don't want in is McGwire, not because of steroids, but because he only really had 3-4 good years in his playing career and his only great ones are 98-99.
