I was on Whitesox.com and noticed that McCarthy number had changed from 41 to 55. Now I don't think that this is too unusual except for the fact that it happened 2 days before the winter meetings and they haven't really changed any other Numbers (ie Jim thome is 25 and so is Borchard).

So not to be a like conspiracy theroist. But is there anyone that could be traded for or signed that was number 41?

I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but still why only that change?

Maybe Freddy will change to 54 and Garland will be 50.

I would suspect he's always been partial to that number. Possibly a little league/HS # that he wanted back. Now that he's got respect in the organization he asked. JMO

Johnson wears 41 in NY because of Bernie Williams. If Johnson were to play for any other team, he'd wear 51 I'm sure. Just his luck that he goes to probably the only baseball team with a prominent number 51 wearer already there.

Rookies always seem to change their number after a year and pick what they really want. Rowand started off as 44 then went to 33 which is probably his favorite number. Wells' departure after 2001 (Aaron's rookie year) allowed that to happen. Danny Wright was like 62, then he went to 38. Bob Howry was also 62 at first, then went to something else, I forget. I wouldn't be surprised if Anderson loses the 44. Kind of a high number for a starting outfielder.

Maybe Porzio is coming back. He does have seniority over BMac after all.

Don't take that Sox website too literally, they DID have Everett listed as #2 when he came back and that's retired!

Are you suggesting they're going to retire 41?

Rowand switched to 44, when Billy Koch came in to take over #44.

Rowand switched to 44 mid season, when Billy Koch came in to take over #44.

:?:

Koch came in during the offseason. I talked to Aaron about his number last year at SoxFest because I wanted to know if he was staying with 33 or going to be 44. He told me that he was staying with 33 because that was his college number.

Really? Because I remember Koch being on MJH or something talking about the weird things he has done to get the number he wanted. Like for instance, he once got a tattoo of the name of person wearing #33. Then I thought he talked about whatever arrangement he had made with Aaron. I was pretty sure they had some sort of arrangement.

If I remember what you're thinking of is one time when Koch was in Toronto he paid a teamate to get Billy Kock tattoo'ed on his butt.
