If you could name the stadium anything you wanted, what would it be and why? Personally after this last season I would call it The 35th Street Cathedral, because it is definately a holy place of worship, and after all those years of blood, sweat and tears in has definately been a home to sacrifice.

Otherwise, Sox Park.

For some reason, I cannot stand when people call it "Sox Park." It's so generic, and whenever I am talking to people who call it that, they tend to not know much about baseball, or the Sox. Obviously that isn't the case here, but that's awlays the impression I get.

It also drives me nuts when people are adament about calling it "Comiskey Park" ... I just don't understand why :dunno: . U.S. Cellular has turned our park into one of the nicest in baseball, no?

I like the Veeck suggestion, but Thomas field would just be ideal....On 35th street, the man's the greatest Sox player ever, etc etc.

It's going to be The Cell for awhile, though.

Yes, I'm not alone in thinking that. That's not the name of the freaking stadium so stop calling it that. Seriously, "Sox Park" is up there with "The Joan"

All of my relatives (folks 50-95) call it Sox Park. They grew up near the park. And I think you'll find plenty of folks in and around the city that still call it Sox Park, including myself. And, of course, Comiskey Park was originally named White Sox Park.

That's where I think I get it from. My grandparents call it Sox Park, and it just annoys me to no end. I know, I always hear it called that, it's just one of those things that gets to me, I guess.

I don't know about this, but maybe it's best to stick with "The Cell." I've gotten used to it, and it's different. Besides, you can change the name of a place to often. In 15 years, the park has had two names. Let's stick with this one. It'll grow on us eventaully (like warts).

I'd also like to comment that personally, I do not understand why people are so attached to the Comiskey name. Sure, that was the name of the old park, though that is now gone.

It seems as if people fail to remember that Comiskey himself did play a big roll in the 1919 BlackSox in grossly underpaying his players. He was a notorious cheap skate and frankly, if staidum naming rights were being sold when he owned the team, he would have jumped at this oppertunity. I think that having a coporate name replacing his name is actually most fitting. Though I do understand the important contributions he made as far as forming the team and american league.

I've made it to a Sox game in Chicago exactly twice in 13-years. Both times, when asking for directions while downtown, I said "Sox Park" and did not get one cross-eyed look in return.

Some of us are forgetting the important adage, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do"...

... Sox Park.

Here's my idea:

1. Tear down the billboards and add a nice backdrop instead, maybe a water fountain or something. Place the statues of our Sox greats (there would be more) in front of it on pedestals and in a line along the OF concourse. Add vegetation around it so it would be almost like a mini park that fans could walk thorugh. Every time a home run is hit it would become impossible to ignore to the legacy of the great Sox players of years past.

2. Put up some brickwork on the face of the building and build a new exit facility. Maybe even keep the same ramp but redesign it and expand it so that it could include merchandise quiosks, a couple BBQ grills, a World Beer stand, and a few seating areas.

3. Since all of the players on the OF fence will already have statues displayed, paint the wall a light color and along the entire wall display all of the different Sox logos from the organization's history, with the current logo in center field. In between logos, it would be cool to have former Sox greats, current and former members of the organization like KW and Nancy Faust, and as much of the '59, '83, and '05 squad as possible write their signatures on the wall.

4. Finally, name it Legacy Field, or something along those lines.

When originally built, I had a hard time calling the new field "Comiskey Park" only because I had such great memories from the old park. After the newness wore off and the newer retro ballparks captured all the attention, I was thrilled to find out the SOX planned to rennovate the park. At first, I had a hard time saying "US Cellular Field". I still do as I feel I should be paid for advertsing everying time I go to a ballgame, however without the corporate funds, we would not have the ballpark we have today. The new atmoshere and sound was really showcased this postseason. I also thought "The Cell" looked great on TV packed with crazy SOX fans. As a result, I enjoy calling the ballpark "The Cell" or "The Cellblock" as I've heard other fans describe it.

If we win a few more World Series, why not "Reinsdorf Park"? Certainly more deserving than Comiskey Park.

Just because Comiskey Park was torn down doesn't mean it can't be called Comiskey Park. The name is used to honor the individual who brought MLB to the city of Chicago back in 1903 and in many cases is still the only actual MLB team the city has!

Everyone I knew growing up in the '50s called Comiskey "Sox Park" except when talking to "outsiders" or speaking formally. When I moved away from Chicago of course I took to calling it Comiskey because "Sox" has unfortunate connotations on the east coast.

The current stadium should have been "White Sox Park" but it is too late now. US Cellular Field is how every Sox fan will fondly remember the place the Sox' most historically triumphant season was played.
