Brewers to unveil new Sunday uniforms
Alternate home jerseys expected to feature ball and glove logo
By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers will unveil new Sunday home uniforms during a live broadcast event at Miller Park next week. Dubbed the "Winter Warm-Up," the hour-long show is scheduled for Dec. 1 at the ballpark's .300 Club. It will be broadcast live on FOX Sports North with Daron Sutton and Bill Schroeder, and Jim Powell will have the call on the Brewers Radio Network.

Participants include Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker, manager Ned Yost, new coaches Robin Yount and Dale Sveum, plus players Bill Hall, Damian Miller, Lyle Overbay, Derrick Turnbow and Matt Wise. General manager Doug Melvin and assistant GM Gord Ash will also be on hand.

Yount, Sveum and fellow Brewers alumni Jerry Augustine, Jim Gantner, Larry Hisle and Gorman Thomas will be familiar with the new alternate uniforms. The Brewers are expected to feature their popular "ball and glove" logo (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mil/history/uniforms_logos.jsp), which was featured from 1978-1993 and "witnessed" some of the best seasons in franchise history.

"We're trying to marry the old with the new," owner Mark Attanasio said at the end of the regular season, while the Brewers were still in the process of designing the new look.

The logo remains popular on caps and T-shirts, and in 2005 the club engineered a unique focus group at Miller Park, letting fans choose a free T-shirt with either the current logo or the "ball and glove." Old school beat new school in a landslide.

The event will also mark the beginning of the team's season ticket campaign (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mil/ticketing/season.jsp), and sales staff will man the phones during the broadcast. Select incoming calls will be fielded by Brewers alumni and others participating in the evening's activities.

Three hundred invited guests are expected to be in attendance at the event and will be invited to ask questions during the evening's panel sessions. Because of limited space in the .300 Club, the event is not open to the public.

Hopefully they won't be as bad as those new Nationals alternates.

That's one of the best sports logos ever. I'd like to see them wearing white vests that have the logo over the left breast (eg. Indians, Rangers alternates). Blue shirts underneath. Not the most original look anymore, but it would be way better than dark blue alternate jerseys (blehhh).

Of course, they could go with powder blue alternates... :o:

It's going to be a white jersey with blue pinstripes along with word Brewers across the front. There will be a number on the lower right breast part of the uniform and a patch of the ball and glove on the right sleeve. I saw a picture of it along with the new Nationals alternate jersey and that turned out to be right, so I'm guessing this one will be right as well. The White Sox also have a new alternate jersey coming, but it won't be unveiled until the end of January.

I love the old Brewer logo. After I moved here, someone pointed out to me that the glove is made up of an "m" and "b". That made it even cooler.

Now only if the Sox would come up here to play them a few times a year, I'd be in heaven.

Great news. Heard the rumors, but didn't know if they were going to go through with it.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing, Baby Fisk. I am considering wearing an alternate powder blue suit for Sunday lightsaber duels."

Do we really need another jersey? I hope this turns out to be false. We've got the sleeveless jerseys and the black top. There's no need for another jersey.

Don't feel dumb, it looks like a glove unless you are loking for it and ignore CFAD. He is either lying or smokes a lot of dope. :D:

I got the information from the MLB Style Guide for 2006, which is sent out to various companies such as the MLB videogame producers so that they know of uniform changes, but unfortunately the one out right now only has pictures of the new Brewers and Nationals' uniform. I think there's a possibility of the Sox having a Sunday alternate for the 1906 World Series team, which would be pretty neat.

Yeah, I read a few times on this board that the team is wearing 1906 Championship season throwbacks on Sunday home games.

I hope thats the only change. Let's stick to the 2005 Championship season throwbacks for the rest of the games.

Eh, I'll be fine with it if it's a 1906 throwback for the 100th celebration of this city's first baseball world title, convientently nestled with a celebration of the greatest baseball team in Chicago history. If it's another new jersey just for the sake of having a new jersey... :cuss:

Is Marlon Byrd wearing the "Einhorn E" cap??

Brooks confirmed that they are wearing the 1906 throwbacks on Sundays next season. I hope that's it. I love the current uniforms and alternates. However, I would like to see them toy around and move the number off the front and onto the sleeve, similar to the 1959 team. Those are my second favorite uniform.

Squint really hard at that logo, and you'll see that the batter spells out S-O-X. :redneck

Yep. The Brewers are doing this to test the waters. Brewers fans have said overwhelmingly that they like the old logo over the current logo, and royal and yellow over navy and gold.
The Brewers were limited by the Cooperstown Collection as to which retro gear they could sell in previous years. With the ball-and-glove logo back in use (even just part time), they can produce certain merchandise which they couldn't before. This will ultimately let them know if the demand is so high that it would be wise to change to the old unis. It may not happen in 07, but very soon the Brewers will return to the old look fulltime.

They shouldn't have ever changed it in the first place. Their current unis look good now but the Ball/Glove logo is a classic that needs to return.

Anyone else find it kind of funny that the picture of Robin Yount says he's "modeling" the logo when it's obviously an old picture of him playing? I know people say a lot that sports players are role models, but are they now considered fashion models too even while they're on the field?
