On the way to the grocery store with the wife, I saw a guy walking by himself with a duffel bag, coming from East Bank Club. I immediately knew it was Neal Cotts. Turns out he lives two blocks away from me. I rolled down the window and said, "Hey Neal. Great job- Congrats!" He waved and said, "Hi...Thanks Man!" He must be one of the few Sox players still in town right now.

I saw a guy in Schaumburg that I swore looked like Hermanson yesterday, with sunglasses. He was exiting while I was entering, and I did a double take, but didn't end up asking since I didn't get a great look

He's just a guy who happens to play baseball. No need to go nuts. I'd love to run across a baseball player on the street, but I'd treat him with respect and not jump all over him.

Agreed. I met Burls and Konerko at a bar in Toronto in July 2003 and they were completely normal guys. At the time, Loiaza (sp) was on the team but I didn't recognize him. I was there with my friend from here (chicago area) and we went up to visit his cousin in Toronto. My friend's cousin knew the bouncer at a upper class club, we would not have been able to get in otherwise.

Anyway, I was standing at the bar by myself trying to order a drink and go back to our table when Paulie came up, I must admit, I didn't recognize him, I mean after all, why would I think it was him anyway??? Regardless, we started chatting and about 10 minutes later I recognized him, I freaked out a little at first but I calmed down. And truth be told, I would have never recognized him if Burls didn't come up to Paulie at the bar. That's when I put 2 in 2 together.

The funny part was I was telling him (Konerko) stats about himself that he didn't know. He had been struggling for most of the season and within the last 3 weeks or something he was batting like .350, and I told him and he didn't know! lol.

But Mark is REALLY quite, at least he was then, that night. He probably was shocked that someone recognized him in Toronto. Paulie and I chatted for about a half hour and he bought me and my friend a beer. Him and Mark also signed autographs for us. The last thing I told Mark was, "If I don't ever see you again, PLEASE win the World Series!" I guess he made good on that 2 years later!

They were both super nice guys, just Paulie was more out-going. The only thing I regret is ignoring Esteban completely, but I seriously didn't recognize him without a hat, (he looks MUCH older without a hat!)

But basically they are just normal guys who happen to be about 5 thousand times more talented then me and have a VERY cool job! It wasn't any different then chatting away with anyone else at the bar. Heck, I was the ONLY one who recognized them, and that includes my American friend!

I thought having complete strangers lunge and grope you was one of the perks to celebrity.

Neil showed he could hang with the big boys in the World Series. He came in during that clutch situation in game 2, I think and showed complete composure out there getting the job done and getting the first two.

I'm dead serious. I was at the Cubs/Sox game at Wrigley a few years back. It was the game where El Caballo hit two home runs a 3-run shot and grand-slam. Anyways, I got on the El with my dad to head back to State Street and I looked back and saw Todd Ritchie who was that games pitcher! I didn't believe it at first, but I waved at him and said great game and he said thanks for the support.

You're probably right, but I was shocked to see Freddy Garcia and his wife at Home Depot about a week ago. Let's put it this way, I wouldn't want to face him on mound, the guy is huge!

A female friend of mine is Freddy's and Juwan Howard's neighbor. She met Ozzie and his family after the parade as Freddy had them over. She's supposed to send down auto's real soon as a Christmas present. She didn't understand why I was freakin' when she told me that. I do know BMac's family real well and also Neal Cotts from his ISU days.

I was hanging in the City for the last 2 days of the ALCS thru the first 2 games of the WS.
I was walking on Ontario, talking to my brother on the phone (in FLorida)
when i said to him "here comes Greg Walker the hitting coach of the AL Pennant winning CHICAGO WHITE SOX!" I gave him a fist bump and he said thanks and we just kept walking in opposite directions.
Then, after game one, we got off the red lne at Monroe and I say to my friend that I was staying with, "Hey there's Joe Borchard" we congratulated
him, but he seemed kinda depressed because he wasn't participating. and as we talked he said that he wasn't likely to be back next year. That's a shame
because he's really a good guy. When I watched the Tivo of game one, there he was, lined up with all the other Sox. ..Didn't see him on the parade broadcast though.

I saw Freddy at Jewel in late May/early June, and I agree with this statement. He's HUGE!!!

Freddie tried to take my friend home last year from a club. This happened after his engagment but before his marriage.

I have met a few of the guys in the Viagra triangle area. Buerhle - Hunt Club, Kenny Williams - Tavern on Rush, AJ, Contreras, Freddie - Le Passage.

Uribe, Timo - Buzz

Cotts's gf works at Grand Central in Lincoln Park so he's there every once in a while.

They all were very cool guys.

Anyone know if his GF graduated from Conant high school? At one point, he was going out with a girl from there, but I am not sure if he is still going out with her.

i live near the EBC as well and I couldve sworn I saw Cotts walking last week sometime, but I was in a cab so I couldn't be sure. I guess odds are it was him.

After I said hi to him, he walked right into a building that he was near. It was just perfect timing. He's a little bit north of you.

What neat about Neal ... or anyone else hangin' with fans ... is that's what gave baseball its special status. Fans knew players personally and vice versa. They walked the streets, they hung in the local watering holes, they conversed with fans. They were not demi-gods, who appeared on a field and disappeared afterwards as if there was no connection between them and the community.

Way to go, Neal!
