Arizona ace Javier Vazquez (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5947) formally asked the Diamondbacks (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=ari) to trade him Thursday night, preferably to a team east of the Mountain Time Zone.

Not because of money. Not to make trouble. Not because he dislikes anything about Arizona except its place on the map.

This, Vazquez told ESPN.com, was just about family.

Let the usual suspects (Orioles, Red Sox, Nationals, Phillies, Marlins, etc.) start lining up.

Yikes....

11-15, 4.40+ ERA while pitching not just in the N.L., but in quite possibly the worst division in history....? :o:

I'm gonna go ahead and put my money on Baltimore, but I wouldn't be shocked if Boston pushed their way in....They seem to LOVE mediocre (over rated) pitchers with ERA's in the high 4's and monster contracts

I remember when there was rumors about this guy comin to the Sox.....:o:

Thank you Kenny! :gulp:

Don't you mean, "My sister's brother in-law overheard Kenny Williams talking on his cell phone at the Phoenix airport. Kenny was saying, yes, you can have Freddy."

Let's just hope the offer of Jon Garland and Paul Konerko can still get this deal done!

Wasn't that supposed to be Konerko and Garland for RJ then it changed to Vasquez later? Boy that really looks good in hindsight, doesn't it?

I don't know, this guy was lights out until he went to the Yankees. Maybe his head's not right. It could be, with the right people in place to guide him, he'll get his mojo back somewhere (like what Coop did for Contreras).

Vazquez made his desire to stay in the east well known last year, which made it unlikely he would have gone to Chicago willingly. IIRC, he was all but threatening to curse the Yankees if they moved him west. Maybe it worked? :?:

Yeah, but those Coors Field games were really a big influence on the ERA

Bank One has always been a hitters park and those desert areas might lead to more hits carrying over. If I was an AL team, I wouldn't do it. The Nats might be a good fit for him because RFK is a pitchers park and he used to play for Frank Robinson.
Even less explicable was Russ Ortiz, who was an ace for the Giants and Braves having a Cy-yuk caliber season. In the offseason, when asked who the dumbest team (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=45103&page=3&pp=15&highlight=Dumber+team+Mets+Tigers) was, I decided to take the high road and say the Diamondbacks.

Vazquez's overall numbers suffered from a horrendous first month. I know I had him in Roto. He was quite a bit better as the season wore on (except one game against the Cubs). I think it shows how rare a pitcher who can win double digit games and throw 200 innings really is. Oh, and we've got four of them.

I guarantee he'll be in a Red Sox uni by March.
