It's difficult to get upset with the pick. But 1.87 ERA from a starter is some fierce domination.

Well, Dontrelle Willis had more wins (22) and a better ERA (2.63).

Definately a tighter race than in the AL...

He also had 6 more losses than Carpenter, but you could make a good case for him.

To me, ERA is the most important stat. A pitcher has no control over if his teammates hit for him, and that affects W-L more than anything. I think Clemens did the best job, but I know they always go with wins. Congrats to CC. I think he's an awesome pitcher.

I couldn't argue if you picked any of the three. Congrats to Carpenter, he has really come on since having surgery in 2003.

"You whiner, I lost 1-0 games to the Tigers twice, and I still won over 20 games."

(In spanish) "And thanks to your Navarro-style whining the next year, I got to come in here and win a World Series. Take that, whiners."

I think ERA is the most important stat also when voting for Cy Young. I think the Astros got shutout 6 or 7 times when Clemens was pitching, and a couple of those games were 1-0. Clemens was the best NL pitcher in my opinon, but Carpenter pitched great too. It's hard to argue with it.
