ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Roberto Alomar and Danny Bautista were reinstated from the voluntary retired list Thursday by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and the pair filed for free agency.

Alomar, a former all-star second baseman with the Toronto Blue Jays, was just 276 hits shy of 3,000 when he retired on March 19 during spring training. The 37-year-old veteran, who had signed a $600,000, one-year contract with Tampa Bay, filed for free agency to preserve future options rather than with the specific intent of playing next year, agent Jaime Torres said.

I was pissed off when KW got them the second time. I have never been a fan of Robbie Alomar, I think it was that spit in umpires face incident.

That quest for 3,000 sure can cloud judgment.

If he's been using roids the last few years, apparently he needs some stronger stuff because they didn't seem to help him too much.

If he was a roidhead the last few years he supports every theory that says roids don't help you as a baseball player.

Yeah, Robbie was not very productive from 2002 to 2005 so I don't think he was roiding. His skills declined very quickly when he went to the Mets. If he was a roid user (and I don't think he was) he would have went off of them between the 2001 season and 2002 season. I think Robbie just got very old very fast. He lost a step and he lost some bat speed and power. However, I will say without a shadow of a doubt, he was the best 2nd baseman of his era but he is over the hill now.

Robbie Alomar 2001 Stats (Indians)
.336 AVG 20HR 100RBI

Robbie Alomar 2002 Stats (Mets)
.266 AVG 11HR 56RBI

Robbie you're not getting 3000 hits!!! Get over it! Maybe he wants to play with the best catcher in baseball again SANDY ALOMAR JR!
