I believe its official now.... FRIDAY not Monday...

WMVP states that the parade will be Monday. No times/details yet. Sox and the City will have an announcement later....Why the hell don't they do this on a weekend? This is a team with working class fans.

and they said he will have both parade and plane information. They were expecting him, but they said he is currently in a meeting to get the full logistics on the parade and plane arrival info. Some of the info may have been talked about, but I don't think it's official yet, especially if he's in a meeting discussing it

Just a heads up

Yeah, I really hope for the sake of Chicago that they wisen up and do it this Saturday. The size of the crowd would probably be a small fraction of what it should be if they do it Monday afternoon.

My ticker tape parade commences at 4PM sharp today. Since I'm a New Yorker, the parade will follow the traditional route for such events in this town, the Canyon of Heroes, beginning at Bowling Green in lower Manhattan, then following Broadway up to City Hall Park.

To the naked eye, it may appear to be a dignified procession of one, but with me will be Wilbur Wood, Nellie Fox, Terry Forster, Bee Bee Richard, Tommy Agee, Walt Williams, Creeper Stroud, Bart Johnson, Cy Acosta, Salome Barojas and a legion of other Sox heroes and yeomen, who have been with me throughout the decades and will today have their day in the sun.

"CHICAGO -- Mayor Richard M. Daley appeared on the Score radio (670AM) this morning and announced that a parade for the world champion White Sox will be held Monday, starting at US Cellular Field and ending at Grant Park about noon.

Daley says details are still being worked out; he wants to make sure the members of the Sox' players families can attend."

OK. So as of right now, we have Da Mayor saying that it will be Monday from the Cell to Grant Park for a rally, and we have the Score and Brooks saying that it is tomorrow on Lasalle going from south to north. To make an obvious statement a la Joe Buck, there is obviously some confusion between officials.

That being said, either way I hope that it's both a parade and rally, whatever day it is and whatever street it is on, just becuase it would be all the more fun and, heck, when else have we had a chance to celebrate like this, lets make the most of it and celebrate this thing like there's no tomorrow! :gulp:

The City of Chicago has announced that a ticker tape parade to celebrate the White Sox's World Series win will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 28 at 12 noon. The parade will begin at the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and LaSalle Street, right outside this building, and will proceed north on LaSalle to Wacker Drive.

Beginning at approximately 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, service deliveries to buildings along the parade route will be limited. If anyone within the Bank has any deliveries scheduled between the time of 11 am - 2 pm, you should contact the vendors to re-schedule.

this sucks! I go to school in central IL and there's no way I can get there on a friday at lunch. Why the hell don't they have it on a saturday. This makes absolutely no sense!
Uh...you do realize that having the parade on a Friday might actually work better for the tens of thousands of people who work downtown, don't you?

Except for the people who work downtown whose bosses don't give a rat's behind about sports and is making the entire office join her for lunch (she's not paying for us, we have to provide our own) and stay in a meeting from 12:30-5.

Your best bets if you are going to try to tape this are in order:

1. Comcast Sports Chicago
2. WGN-TV (Superstation)
3. ESPN News

I can guarantee you Comcast will televise, WGN probably will...I wouldn't bet on ESPN.

I would much prefer Monday over Friday. The team is landing in Midway right now, Friday is way too soon. And people need time to request the day off. This is less than once in a lifetime, plan it right. And screw LaSalle, it should start in Bridgeport and go wherever. I hope that news is true.

There will be a rally at Wacker and the River around noon

It's an office of 7 people, so EVERYONE would know exactly why I called in sick. Plus I am putting in my notice on November 7th and I'd like to be able to at least get a neutral recommendation response rather than be fired! This place can be pretty Fire-happy with employees too so I can't push it.

Well at least I can tape it! And I am so short that I probably wouldn't be able to see anything as it is had I went to the parade. Plus if people are stil rallying post-5pm I will join in.

City officials say the players and team staff will ride double-decker buses that will leave U.S. Cellular Field about 11 a.m. tomorrow.

While the route is stilling being finalized, the procession will pass through neighborhoods including Bridgeport, Bronzeville, Pilsen, Greektown and Chinatown.

Once the motorcade reaches the Loop, a ticker tape parade at about noon is planned, stretching down LaSalle from Jackson to Wacker

Finally, a victory rally is expected to be held about 12:30 p.m. at the corner of Wacker and LaSalle.

This is from memory so I hope it's right. 35th to King Drive, King Drive to Cermak, Cermak to Ashland, Ashland to Harrison, Harrison to Halsted, Halsted to Jackson, Jackson to LaSalle, then down LaSalle to Wacker.

Brian26

This has potential to be one of the most amazing celebrations in the history of Chicago due to the location. The pictures of this thing are going to be unbelievable, and the location of the rally at the top of LaSalle right at the river is an a great location. It looks like Wacker is going to be shut down between Wells and Clark. The aerial shots of this on tv are going to be spectacular.

According to a news release from the city, the official motorcade will include city officials, team players and family members, and White Sox staff members. Double-decker buses will depart 35th Street, head east to King Drive to Cermak, west on Cermak to Ashland, North on Ashland to Harrison, east on Harrison to Halsted, north on Halsted to Jackson, east on Jackson to LaSalle, where the Parade of Champions will begin. The official parade begins at noon at Jackson and LaSalle Street, in front of the Board of Trade Building. The parade will proceed north on LaSalle to Wacker. Confetti and ticker tape will shower the streets leading up to the main stage located at the corner of Wacker and LaSalle on the bridge, where the rally begins. Remarks from the Daley, the White Sox Organization, team players and corporate sponsors will follow ending with fireworks and fanfare.

Honestly, this sounds a lot better than a Grant Park celebration. It's going to be really dramatic (or at least, if they plan it right, it should be) when the White Sox motorcade first makes the turn onto La Salle street from Jackson and throngs of people are waiting along La Salle, greeting the team. It would be unreasonable to expect hordes of people along the entire route, but it will be like the Olympic Marathon where there were only a few at some points, but progressively more and more people as you approach the final area.

If they do this right, this could be very, very dramatic.

I'm now in Japan and can't stay awake until 5am. If anyone can record it(onto dvd if at all possible), it would be greatly appreciated. For those far away from Chicago, like us here on the left coast, WGN is covering it and is carried on a number of cable and sattelite carriers. I'm Tivo-ing it right now, great interviews with Frank, Walker, Kenny, Harold, Nancy etc as they were loading the buses.

If you missed it, it's worth watching the replay and taping it. The Bears and Bulls celebrations were nice but this was exceptionally well done. The program flowed real well, player/personnel intros and videos were timed very well. The program was done in good taste (e.g. Lyric opera singer doing the N.A. who I mistook at first for Frank Thomas) , Hawk was a lot of fun, but what made it work well was the unselfish makeup of the team (what and how they talked at the podium). Jerry Reinsdorf getting the game ball unexpectedly from Paul was quite a moment. And going through the representative grinder neighborhoods was a good choice, like the Chicago Marathon route. The weather, the neighborhood procession (including Bridgeport at the last minute), the tickertape, the large turnout, the unselfish group of guys, the program done in good taste--a big success and what a great day to remember for a long time!
