Wow. How many 8 game winning streaks did the sox have this year? And then, of course to close it out...

8... and... 8.
It's a damn good thing we lost on september 27th. A win there could've totally screwed us over.

My lucky number changed from 3 to 8.

If you win every 8 out 9 games you'll be playing .889 ball:tongue:

Two 8-game winning streaks separated by a loss would be impressive for any team. Impressively, this Sox team did that mostly on the road. Five of the 16 wins and the only loss came at the Cell. More impressively, only the first two wins came against a team with a losing record. The rest came against teams that would have to be considered among the best of 2005.

Most impressively is that they led to a World Series trophy.

Naysayers will point out the Sox never beat a team with a better record in 2005.

They never got the chance to play any.

Technically, the 8 is repeating: .8888888888888888 etc.
All bow to the sacred 8! Ah, ah, ah!

The only team with a better record than the Sox in all of Baseball was The Cardinals, who only had a better record than the Sox at the End of the Season. They only finished one game better over us: 100 wins vs. 99 wins in a 162 game season. They did not win the NLCS. We never faced them. I know I'm agreeing with you very vehemently, but I wanted to add elucidation. I also think that naysayers won't be saying we never defeated a team with a better record. The reason is the same as what you said but I'd like to express it a little differently. We're the team with the better record.

Its true we won 110 games out of 174. That is much better than the Cards winning 107 out of 171. We also had the Indians and Twins in our division not to mention were in the highly superior league.

This is a no doubter, not only were the 2005 White Sox the toast of the league they are one of the top 20 teams of All time!

Heard a caller last night from Michigan City on AM1000 with Bruce, Cangy & John Rooney:

5 8-game winning streaks.
88 years since a last world title.
This was to avenge the "8 Men Out"

1) We led wire to wire.

2) We nearly swept the post season, 11-1.

3) We faced adversity, going from 15 games up to 11/2 games up. We turned it around and surged from there.

4) We played in a very tough division.

5) We played a World Series for the ages.

I do think we're among the top teams of all time. Maybe not the '27 or '61 Yankees, but I see us as the equivalent of the '29 Athletics at least.

I followed Scientific rounding principles to the third digit as in MLB Standings.

Oh, and I asked my magic 8 ball if the Sox would win the World Series after they beat Boston. The answer: It is almost certain.

One of the WSI '06 prediction questions should be how many 8 game winning streaks will there be in '06

1. After eight men out, we waited 88 years for a championship.
2. We finished the season with an 8-game winning streak.
3. We won eight in a row five times, but never nine in a row.
4. How many hits did we have last night? Eight.
5. What inning did we score the winning run in? The eighth.
6. Willie Harris wears number 12. He scored the winning run. Jermaine Dye wears 23. He drove in the winning run. Add up the digits: 1+2+2+3=8
7. October 26: 2+6+8

The number eight loves us.

I "8" to poke a hole in this otherwise beautiful post, but Willie Harris wears #1.
The lovely and talented Anthony John Pierzynski sports #12 for the Pale Hose.
