LOVED the replay of Pods homerun, showing the dugout instead of the ball. Anderson and Rowand stand there saying "Oh my God" in total disbelief, till it flies over the wall, and then they both go nuts!

Brad Lidge walked off the field dazed, and confused. I saw that look from another pithcer in my time: Mark Wholers. I only hope that Bobby Jenks shakes this night off, he did not have his best stuff, and that was one bad ass slide.

Best...game...ever.

Did you see the "in-game box score" sometime around the 7th? Everyone but PK and Scotty had hits. I thought to myself that those two guys were our leaders on offense and we needed a contribution...but never in a million years did I think they'd come through the way they did tonight.

Two more wins, and this team goes down not only as the best in Chicago history, but one of the best single-season teams EVER.

Right before the final pitch I visualized a tailor made fastball down the middle and Pods pulling it hard. No, I certainly didn't call it, but haven't you come to just expect this stuff? I agree. It was a great home run call. I don't think Rooney could believe his eyes, and neither could I. I was just hoping Scotty would get on base and maybe steal a bag, give Gooch and JD a chance to drive in a run. What an unforgettable moment and an unforgettable game.

My other comments on tonight:

Cotts and Podsednik picked Jenks up after he failed, and that's what winning baseball is about.

Also, Konerko has been going deep with men on base all postseason. No more talk of "meaningless solo home runs."

Buerhle pitched better than his line indicates. He left a few pitches up, especially the one to Ensberg. The Astros just nickeled and dimed him to death in that fifth inning. He kept us in the game, and I was pretty happy with him overall.

Houston had so many cheap hits tonight... poorly hit balls that squeaked inside the line. Even that checked swing out in the top of the ninth that put both runners in scoring position. They were damned lucky to get 6 runs... and the Sox still beat them!

To tell you the truth, I was just expecting someone to do it. Uribe had a good cut but just got under it. Right before the final pitch I visualized a tailor made fastball down the middle and Pods pulling it hard. No, I certainly didn't call it, but haven't you come to just expect this stuff? No matter what, we have an answer. It must really suck to play us.

Don't you remember that the White Sox were a gift for the Red Sox? Hahahahaha.

You could see Lidge didn't have it tonight. It was a tough night to be a reliever, sitting out there for 2.5 hours or so.

Wow. Just wow.

Everyone is going to talk about how "lucky" the Sox were with that call on the HBP in the seventh. The Astros were incredibly damn lucky in the fifth to score two runs. Ausmus squirts one off Crede's glove for a double. Tavares had the weakest infield single of all time, and that double by Berkman wasn't exactly a screaming liner. The breaks were going against Buerhle. I'm glad the Sox got him off the hook. He didn't pitch that badly at all.

Rowand was on first and made it to second on the play. He went back to tag up in case they caught it.

I actually thought it was a good baserunning play by A-Row, but it ended up blowing up in his face. Burke should have caught that ball. It was up there long enough, and he got back there in time. He just drifted on it. His momentum was carrying him toward the foul pole. If he makes the catch, it's unlikely he can turn around and make a good enough throw to get Rowand at second. As it turns out, Burke botched the play, and it made Aaron look stupid.

GREAT POINT. McCarver kept saying that A-Row screwed up because Burke hadn't squared up to the plate. Actually, when Aaron turned back to the bag, Burke HAD mostly squared up to the plate. Basically McCarver thought it'd be much easier to play Monday morning QB than to give a correct analysis of the play. I, too, wondered why he didn't go to third until I saw the replay. It's colder tonight than it was last night, and it was raining. Hard to get loose as a pitcher in those conditions. Jenks hit 98 a couple times. I'm not worried about him in the least.

Even if he's throwing 95, that's still plenty good enough to get it done. He got squeezed in that at-bat with Burke, and the Vizcaino hit was a little bleeder. I actually thought Pods would throw Burke out. He damn near did. I have all the confidence in the world in Jenks.

Also, Politte was an unsung hero in this game. He mowed through Tavaras, Berkman and Ensberg in that eighth inning. Cliff showed no ill effects from all the time off.

****ing amazing, a huge win. One of my favorite parts was seeing Mark consoling Jenks.

I thought FOX had a solid broadcast last night, but horrible tonight. Jeez, soo many replays on the Dye thing, I don't even think there was one replay of PK's homerun. They didn't linger that much on when Houston got breaks in St. Louis (guy safe at 2nd), and failed to recognize how know out would have been guaranteed with a foul ball, and how amazing it was to see what PK did. Buck was then giddy like a school girl, as he marveled on what Vizcaino did. What Konerko did was damn impressive too, and he hardly talked about that. Also, his praising of Lidge, sure it's deserved, but almost as we don't know baseball and had never seen him before. Well, one guy that did see him was Pods, AMAZING!

So we got to their best bullpen arms, and have beaten 2/3 of the big 3. Next game will be tough as I think Oswalt is their best pitcher, but they just got thunderstruck, I'll never doubt this team. CANNNTT WAIIITT TILLL TUESSDAY!!!!!!

I just saw that. Anyone notice that Comcast tapes interviews on the field and then runs them later and presents them as being "live". There's no way that Ozzie interview was live.

Well, if it was taped then they managed to edit the scoreboard clock which had the correct "Live" time.

Well, one guy that did see him was Pods, AMAZING!There were so many replays of the PK grand slam that they almost missed the Everett single and then there were a ton more and they almost missed Rowand's AB.

Give it up already with all the bitching about the media and the TV coverage. Just enjoy it.

The Sox have won 14 of their last 15 games.

Since September 28, the Sox have only lost one game.

Their next game will be on October 25. That's 3-days short of a month with only one loss.

Unbelievable.

Were you in the chatroom...man, we were down. People were using the "corpseball" term, but the chat electrified after PK's slam and again after Scotty's game winning HR. It was an awesome transformation from gloom and doom to complete elation!! :bandance:

After re-watching the game in double time, I have to take back what I said about MB in the the gameday thread. He had about 4 bloop hits on him, two of them never left the infield, and Berkman went way down and got that pitch he hit for a double. He's a damn good player.

Buehrle then shut them down for the next two innings, a la Boston game 2. His location wasn't there, but he did enough. Felt bad for Jenks... got squeezed big time on the Burke AB.

Houston had so many cheap hits tonight... poorly hit balls that squeaked inside the line. Even that checked swing out in the top of the ninth that put both runners in scoring position. They were damned lucky to get 6 runs... and the Sox still beat them!

Wow. Just wow.

And were damned lucky to hold the Sox to 7. I mean Crede, Dye and someone else all just missed home runs foul. Dye's was with men on base too. The Sox came with in 15 feet or so of putting up 12 runs tonight.

In either case, it was certainly a dramatic win. Naturally, I missed both the Granny and the Walkoff while doing stuff that needed doing at work. I suppose I'll live with the knowledge that the Sox won, but it would have been nice to see those two live. You should have seen my face when they showed the replay on Fox postgame. I was thinking, "I could have sworn that was Podsednik, but it must have been AJ right. I mean their last names start with P and both have the number 2 on their jersey."

Wrong again, but what a delicious way to be wrong...

One out of the next 3 pretty much cinches it, but I am having so much fun why should they shoot so low?

I thought the same thing -- Jenks got squeezed on that AB and there should not have been a walk. But whaddya gonna do? Maybe Dye's HBP actually hit the bat, maybe it didn't. That call went our way. Gotta give Vizcaino credit for the 2-RBI hit.

But hey, it's a win! In the World Series! The Sox are up 2-0! I don't believe this is really happening! I love exclamation marks! I love dancing bananas!

It's incredible how the unexpected happens, how the guy you least expect is the one who picks up the team. How the guys that everyone was screaming that we should get rid of and the guys that no one else wanted are the guys that came through with unbelievable performances. Not that Paulie is a slouch either, but look at the lack of recognition he receives from the ESPN and FOX talking heads. Actually I don't know what the guys on FOX are saying since I have Rooney and Farmer on the radio. Thank God they fixed that delay.

Everything is going our way.

Well, considering it takes Pods about 8 seconds to round the bases, it shouldn't be too surprising. I barely had time to register what I had just seen.

Also, from Lidge's perspective, how long did it take you to recover the last time somebody kicked you square in the gut? :D:

It's very real. There is a replay that shows Pods rounding 3rd and he is still on the field. He was moving to back-up 3rd as off the bat he was probably thinking it was a triple with a possible play at 3rd.

Three things come to my mind as we stand two wins from a World Series victory:

This team will never cease to amaze me.

Scott Podsednik will never have to pay for his own drinks in Chicago ever again.

No, Pods was barely jogging going around third. He had to give the guys time to give him the honorary walkoff beating that has become commonplace in baseball. They were slow getting to home as NO ONE expected Pods to do jack one out and end it. Then of course it took another few seconds to get over their shock and finally they sprinted for home...

At least that is what the replay showed me...

Best $600 I ever spent.

After tonight's game, I have now seen the two biggest home runs in White Sox history. In person. Wow.

The joy we experienced when Konerko launched that first pitch grand slam was replaced by the empty feeling of watching our invulnerable closer proving he's human, and just barely at that. If he doesn't walk a guy on 4 pitches before Vizcaino's hit, it's a different story.

But when Pods came to the plate, I was screaming for him to dump it into the right field bullpen. I didn't miss by much. I was sitting in the RF corner upper deck, and all game long, I kept misjuding where balls were going to land. As soon as Pods hit his, I knew it had the distance. (But I still kept screaming "Go! Go! Go!" until it cleared the wall.) Absolute bedlam at the Cell. I may never live long enough to see such an incredible, universal explosion of joyous mayhem. MERCY.

Kind of a weird, mixed day. The weather was freakin' brutal, and my seat was just out of reach of dryness at the beginning of the game, so I ended up walking around the OF concourse for 2 innings to try and warm up (and drink a cup of what has to be the world's worst coffee). When Dye got "beaned" (I now hear that the ball hit his bat), I had a hunch something big was coming up, so I returned to my seat just in time to see PK's Most Amazing Grannie.

I also got interviewed by WGN TV standing outside the park with my "Need 1 ticket" sign. As my wife pointed out, I've now been in the Tribune and Sun-Times, on WGN TV, and the Sox are 9-1 in the postseason so far, and that it probably wouldn't get any better than this.

I hope it does, though: 2 more times.
