View Full Version : Help me with a tough decision...

Alright, I'm a huge Sox fan but not huge into the collectable stuff. I've got a couple Sox hats, my White Sox flag flying proud outside, and a few other nick nacks, but nothing big. Tomorrow I've decided to pony up for a jersey. One of the authentic, sharp looking, ridiculously expensive jerseys. I just can't decide whose to get. Here are my top 4.

Pierzynski-Just love the way he plays. Plus, was at the memorable(infamous to the rest of the world) Game 2 drop third strike game.

Buerhle-Favorite pitcher. Like his style. He doesn't have the heat but he gets people out. Longest tenured picture in the rotation.

Podsednik-Just a great story. Would probably get the All-Star jersey if possible, as I think that Sox fans voting him into the game this season was very cool.

Konerko-Definitely becoming the face of this team in Frank's absence. Back to back monster years. Downside: he's a free agent, no guarantee he'll be back.

If you were me, which would you get. Also, where would you get it. I'm going to the game tomorrow, so I guess my choices are Grandstand or in the park. Thanks.

Pierzynski. But I would be honored to sport the jersey of any player on this team with the exception of Marte maybe.

Does that include Jeff Blum?

Well he did make a great game-ending catch as a defensive sub for Konerko. Why not?

Pierzynski. Last night's stolen base furthered his drive towards Sox immortality. This clubhouse cancer of ours is taking on folkloric status.

My Josh Paul #15 black game worn jersey never looked so good.:bandance:

I bought back in 2001 at the Sox garage sale.

I would choose the one that more closely resembles your personality/life situation.

AJ- if you like to push peoples' buttons

Buehrle- if you just take the ball and do it. Not much hype

Pods- if you are focused and intense

Paulie- if there are people in your life that no matter what great things you do, people still don't like or get you. Like in-laws. Or stepkids.

Just relax and take the low interest loan out and get all 4. You can't make a choice like that.........you MUST have them ALL!!

I still have a jersey coming from my girlfriend for my birthday - I am beginning to think of Joe "Don't need no automatic because I am clutch" Crede and I suggest that you do too

Personally and seriously, I'd get a Joe Crede. If you want to stand out and be different, AJ is the way to go.

You really couldn't go wrong with any of them. I was thisclose to buying a couple last night myself, but sadly I resisted temptation. Couldn't decide between AJ, Crede, Contreras and Jenks. They all looked so good with that *WS05* patch on the sleeve.

Of the choices listed, I'd probably go with the guy who has, IMO, re-defined this team with his attitude (besides Ozzie of course):

though there is another tempting one out there

or there's always the franchise

****ing get over it. Everybody else has, for goodness sake.

Back to the topic, personally if I had the $$$ I'd get a Buehrle jersey, but any one of those guys would be a good choice.

Keeping in mind what someone before me said about longevity - Pods and AJ's contracts are up after next year. Who knows where we'll be at that point in time as far as whether we'll want to resign them.

Good point. Anyone know of a listing of Sox players and their contract statuses?

By the way, does Pods have enough ML service to become a fullblown FA after next year? I thought you needed 6 years. Hmm... I guess that means Crede will be after this year or next too.

Don't get the jersey at the park. The lettering/numbering is NOT authentic. IMO if I am going to pay $200, it better look exactly like the real deal.

Grandstand's jerseys are really nice and authentic, but they will have a limited selection. If you want a jersey tonight, the selection that they have may dictate what you get.

My next jersey will be Pierzynski. I already have Podesednik.

Pods will be here next year for sure, remember by getting into the All-Star game he got an automatic $100,000 (I think) raise for next year?

After this year and tonight...go with Pods...

Well, I ended up choosing Pierzynski and bought it at the park, despite Palehose13's warnings. It looks authentic to me. I went to Grandstand but the line just to get in was a block long and not moving. It wasn't worth it. So, Pierzynski, #12, with the WS05 patch on the right sleeve. I'm pumped.

Thanks to all for the help and suggestions.

What does the lettering on the back look like? All season long, the jerseys sold in the shop did not have the outline. For example, if you bought a pinstripe, the name and number were sewn on in black only...there was no gray outlining the black letters and numbers. If it's different now, cool, but it is one thing that I noticed this year and it bothered the hell out of me.
