No one.. and not many will pay it. These *******s will either end up coming down on the price a few days before.. scalping for face around the park.. or wiping their butts with them because they were too stubborn to sell them to fans at a reasonable price and screw themselves a little financially. I pray for C.

Otherwise, everybody would wait until the last day and the brokers would take a bath. It's cheaper for them to eat a few if they can maintain the prices on the others.

I really think the market has not set yet, and won't until after noon tomorrow. Prices will settle down a day or so after that.

Broker sites had ALCS seats dropping over $100 by day of game. I saw several people paying face for tickets outside the park. I would imagine that won't happen with the World Series, but people aren't going to pay $1000 for a nosebleed seat in the corner. The people selling these on craigslist and stubhub will probably just end up going. I agree with the above post, when gametime approaches, if you're willing to pay $200 over face, you will be able to get in the park.

This (http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/local_story_289234313.html) article from the CBS2 web site reports that tix are going for up to $4,700 per ticket, but they blow their credibility with the following dubious statements:
- "ticket prices are still rising"
- "Don’t wait until the last minute....The market will double, triple immediately...." (quoting a scalper without noting the motive to lie)
- "Not since Shoeless Joe Jackson have the Chicago White Sox caused this much of a commotion."
- "nearly a half-century of ho-hum baseball"
- "it will also give them a shot at some long overdue redemption"
- "The 46-year gap between Series appearances is the longest in major league history."

IMHO, you'd have to be a fool to pay five-figures for a ticket. The chances of getting comparable seats for a fraction of that price on game day are very, very good.

Not sure if this belongs in it's own thread or not, but here seems like a good place to start.
If I try and order tickets of ticketmaster tomorrow at noon, does the game that iI select make a difference as to wether or not I will get tickets? Like would game one be harder to get than game two? Also, do iI have to enter all of my credit card info within the two minutes that they hold the tix for me, or is there a way to have it all ready ahead of time. Kinda a loaded question but I guess Im kinda a noob at this. Thanks for any help that you can give.

So if I don't get tickets tomorrow, and can't afford $1K, but would be willing to pay, say, $300, is it possible? I don't want to buy plane tickets home until I know I'm going to a game.

I went to game one of the ALDS willing to pay up to $200 for a bleacher seat. Unfortunately, so did about 2000 other people. There were no brokers to be found and lots of sad looking souls wandering aimlessly.

I'll try my luck tomorrow. If that fails, I'll bug my company's vendors, and if that doesn't work, I'll just head to the park and pray.

FWIW, perusing ebay, there's a ton of tickets available and many that say something to the effect of "these are ticketfast tickets that will be printed and FedExed immediately upon payment". Which to me says "Give me your money, and I'll send you some random paper". Buyer beware.

Can anyone explain what this poorly worded sentence means?

Does it mean fans cannot buy two tickets to game 1 and two tickets to game 2?

I dont think it should be an issue of choosing between games, if you get one, you are extremely lucky. As for people paying thousands of dollars to scalpers for a single game ticket, if you are going to spend that much money why not just buy 2006 season tickets?

On the MLB site, it says that people who don't pick up their tickets by 9PM Oct. 21st will forfeit those tickets and their money will be refunded. I assume at that point those tickets would be fair game. I doubt many people would do something as stupid as buy WS tickets and then not pick them up, but I'm sure there will be a few. So if you don't have any success getting tickets Tues., try again on Friday after 9PM.

Bingo. If you buy 2006 season tickets you are guaranteed a World Series ticket this year. And it'll come out to around a grand anyway.

#2 - even if it's an authentic ticket, it's possible to get screwed

I wouldn't do it.

You should take the time to read what's actually happening before going off. The tickets on the ticket exchange are posted by ticket holders, not by the Sox. The Sox are just acting as a middleman.

I realzie these tickets aren't being sold by the Sox, but aren't there enough broker sites out there? I thought the ticket exchange is like trying to get rid of an extra ticket before a game, for face value. By allowing a person to ask as much as they want for a ticket is exactly what ticket scalping is. So the sox may not be doing it themselves, but they are definatley promoting it. Which I got crap for in front of Sox Park, and I was asking less than face value.

I think ticketmaster is ticketmaster. Kinda like if you call your bank to check your balance you might get someone in Boise or somethin. what are the chance of gettin those tickets tomorrow on ticketmaster.com? does anyone have any previous experience with tryin to get tickets for face value?

So that means one could call ticketmaster's # in say, Miami, and buy WS tickets through them?

Exactly. Even a legit ticket could have its bar code invalidated (that's how the Sox Ticket Exchange works). So on the street, you have no idea what you are getting. The only safe way is to enter with the seller and pay once you've gained entrance - good luck with that. With some of the ticket brokers, you at least get the comfort of a guarantee.

Hmm, I don't know about the other comments. They are pretty hard to prove or disprove but the last statement is a flat out lie. The Cubs have now gone 60 years between appearances. They need to have their proofreaders fired.

Seriously, who can afford that without selling a kidney on the black market?

Quite a few unfortunately. Most people could afford that without a hint of financial peril. You name em'...lawyers, doctors, engineers, etc. Also, don't forget that corporations will be going at this too. Many of these have PLENTY of money to burn on this stuff - especially to shmooze a client where their ticket investment will return many times over.

According to my friend, they are only selling 2000-3000 tickets today.

Also scalpers lost alot of money last series. They lost about 100K the first game. They were practically giving tickets away the day of game 1.

2K-3K total or per game?

Also, im loving hearing that brokers lost tons of money on the last series. Good, thats what you get for asking 10x as much for nosebleed seats!

But those folks are not going to sit in lousy seats upstairs or in the foul pole corners. There's really two different markets out there. I think there's going to be a lot more lousy seats (500 level) on the market this afternoon, and the pricing will get more competitive for those. The good seats have been distributed, and the market for those is established.

FWIW, perusing ebay, there's a ton of tickets available and many that say something to the effect of "these are ticketfast tickets that will be printed and FedExed immediately upon payment". Which to me says "Give me your money, and I'll send you some random paper". Buyer beware.

It was in the papers. There were alot of scalpers sweating because they did not think they were going to sell them. There were a few people interviewed who got tickets for 70 bucks in the lower level.

Or even worse, handing wads of cash to someone outside the park. No thanks.

Agreed. I bought my tickets for game 5 of the ALCS on Ebay and had no issues. On Ebay, as long as you are buying from a seller who has sold lots of items (meaning they are doing this for income), I can't imagine you would have a problem, as they want to avoid any negative rating like the plague. Also, the ones I bought were actual tickets (not ticketfast) so there was no chance they were double printed or already scanned that day. No way I would buy tickets from a scalper outside the park.

Tips

I live in North Carolina, and using solely my laptop with two browsers (Firefox & IE) I was able to get two sets of four tickets to game one of the ALCS; one set was paid for by my dad and one set was paid for by mself. Since I live at my own place, this doesn't violate ticketmaster's ticket policy so long as your billing addresses indicate two households. I aligned my computer's clock to the atomic clock and waited, refreshing frequently.
I have a feeling that everyone in the Midwest is probably trying to use the same server. Since I'm in the South, I probably took the "southeastern route" to Ticketmaster's servers in LA. To circumvent this, you could try to purposefuly go to a different ticketmaster server, like Ticketmaster.ca, the Canadian server. I don't know if that will truly cause you to take a different "route", but it's worth a shot. Ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster.ca resolve at different IP addresses, meaning, while they are both in Los Angeles, they are different machines. And yes, Canadian or not you can still buy White Sox tickets off that server.

Direct link: http://www.ticketmaster.ca/artist/805917
Finally, today I'm going to try using four different browsers with my laptop instead of two: Opera, Firefox, IE, and Netscape's latest. I have them all sitting on the game two page, and all of them are logged in already.
I doubt I will have much luck today, given the sparse amount of tickets, but these are a few things the rest of you can try to screw the scalpers.

1 account with my girlfriend's (lives in Chapel Hill)
1 account with my own CC (I live in raleigh)

Just an FYI from Ticketmaster's website:

Multiple Browsers from One Computer

Please use only one browser window at a time (on the same computer) to hold tickets. If you open a new browser and order a different set of tickets, the tickets held in the previous browser will be released for sale to other customers. This helps us to prevent attempts to use automated programs to block other customers from getting tickets.

Gavin is doing it the right way. I know people in the past have tried using multiple windows with the same account. It won't work. I don't want people to get though for tickets and then lose out!

Notice "gap between", there's no between for the Cubs. So IF the Cubs ever do get there, they would shatter this record.

Two tickets in 554 just sold for over $2000 on eBay.

INSANE!!!

It's cheaper to buy season tickets at that point and get tickets to all of them.

These are the crazy moneybags we have to deal with.

I didn't get in either and I'm mega-pissed, but did people who attempted to search for four tickets honestly expect that they would get them? The lower number of tickets that you asked for the higher the odds.

Well, I gave it a good try. I want through Ticketmaster and put the secret word in and got a wait time of 4 minutes. As of 12:43, It's still showing a wait time of 4 minutes. This is not fair! Looks like I'm out of luck again. No playoff games for me this year. :whiner:

Of all the computers I had going, only one was able to get through in any reasonable amount of time. And the secret word was completely unreadable. SKU... something something.

I AGREE

Aren't monopolies illegal? Whoever breaks up Ticketmaster/and or makes the system better for die-hard fans and worse for brokers, I will vote for.

Why is ticket brokering legal? If there's no ticket brokering business, our chances of getting tickets greatly increase.

I don't care if they are operating under the rules of the law. Scalpers = Scum
