Depends on Freddy Garcia. I have a lot of confidence in Jose Contreras in Game 5. If Freddy can put us on the brink, Jose can carry us home.

I loved that first inning. Podsednik gets on base. Dye and Konerko deliver RBIs. That's how our offense is supposed to work.

Nice nice win. That was huge. Tomorrow might be difficult against Santana. At least he's not the one in the Twins jersey.

The only dark cloud comment I can make tonight is how come Ozzie didn't pinch run for A.J in the 9th? I would have rather had Ozuna or Harris in in case a single...

Jon Garland: When someone is nasty you see broken bats and ugly swings. All night long.

Paraphrase of the night:
JB: People were thinking the White Sox may bring in momentum from Game 2's exciting ending
Loudmouth quitter from Florida: I don't think they have today, however, they have put up five runs behind the pitching of Garland.

I love it. Go 9 innings so the Angels hitters can't see our bullpen.

I definately like our chances of winning the pennant now. We lost a game when we were the favorites (game 1), and we got it back by winning a game when we were the underdogs (game 3).

It feels good. If only I had my illegal fireworks... :(:

Another great game by the White Sox. It was the team's 104th win. Konerko picked up where he left off in Boston with 3 HRs in the 6 games. Iguchi continued his great hitting and even Flea had 2 hits.

Garland was the story tonight with 116 pitches on my scorecard (118 on yahoo). I am surprised he pitched the 9th given he would be the Game 7 pitcher. We had some good defensive plays but Garland was on his game with 7 Ks and 1 BB which was the first walk of the series. We almost shut them out and would have if Garland had that 3rd strike called.

Garcia will be on the mound tomorrow and hopefully he will ahve the stuff he brought to Fenway. Santana is a tough pitcher who shut us down and we will need to battle tomorrow from the first pitch to bring home another White Sox winner.

Go White Sox!!!

Props to Cabrera. Garland did not make a mistake, it was just a good piece of hitting.

Now pitching for the Chicago White Sox, #20, Judy Garland. I don't want to EVER hear that again, as Jon proved himself tonight

I'm just taking this one game at a time. Anything can happen. Huge win tonight! There's more pressure on them tomorrow to avoid being one game away from elimination. I hope the announcers were right when they discussed how both Vlad and Molina may have some nagging injuries slowing them down. I also like how the pitching is setting up. Not just our dominance so far, but the fact that the Angels have had to go to their bullpen pretty early and ours is very rested. It's also pretty big that Lackey pitched today, was somewhat ineffective, and probably can't pitch again unless there is a game seven. Meanwhile, we have Freddy going tomorrow and Count the next day on his normal rest interval.

Because it seems so much closer . . .

It seems more special because we've already gone through a lot to get here. In previous years, you go to the ALCS and that's it. And we never really came close in any of them.

On another note, how good is our starting pitching? Game by game total runs: 2, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2. And that 4 could've easily been another deuce with good defense.

SouthSide_HitMen
10-14-2005, 10:34 PM

They were two letter short of class tonight. Winners show class. Winners produce when called upon.

Winners like AJ Pierzynski who brings his teammates to a higher level. Winners like Konerko who hit his 3rd home run in 6 games. Winners like Iguchi and Podsednik and Dye who continued to get on for the White Sox.

Winners like Contreras and Buehrle and Garland who have pitched lights out this series.

If we beat Santana tomorrow, who shut us down early in the season, we will have defeated the best pitcher we will face this series. I think Garcia will put us in position and once again our batters will be called upon to produce. We are not worried about any West Coast jinx. We are a team on a mission to win it all and all of us are lucky to be alive to enjoy the ride.

Go White Sox!!!

Garland was fantastic tonight. Maybe that rest put him back into early season mode!:D:

I would like to see Rowand and Everett get some better cuts up there... I know Carl had the RBI, but he still hasn't been smacking the ball like he does when he's hot. We'll need them before this is over.

Iguchi had a great game on both sides of the ball. Two great defensive plays, and he had a double, single and a sacrifice and scored twice.

His perfect strike relay to nail Erstad at third, and that double play hopper he caught and threw to Paulie to get both outs.

Podsednik is going up the middle well. I like the early leads. :gulp:

At the postgame interview they asked Konerko something along the lines of "What does America need to know about the White Sox?" It was a stupid question, and he just sort of gave a blank response. But, what the "big media" and America does not seem to get as of yet is that the Sox are capable of throwing 4 aces - 4 #1 starters - at a team. With starting pitching like that, you're in every game, and when you're in every game, you can win every game. Gotta love the starting pitching so far in the postseason. They really risen to the challenge. I've always been a Garland fan - but if anyone was still skeptical, in this game Garland earned his stripes. He's a big time, big game pitcher. A great win.

Also Iguchi's nice bunt to move Podsednik to second to set up that RBI. And Iguchi's nice double play the bottom of that inning, and the two runs he legged out. Better game for fundamentals after baserunning and bunting gaffes earlier in the series. Not to mention the terrific starting pitching!

Southern Californians are incapable of showing real emotion about anything. There were a few boos here and there for Eddings and AJ, but imagine if it was here? The stadium would be ringing with boos. In fact, the only reason it's loud in Angel Stadium is because they hand out those stupid thunderstix at every game to make it artificially loud. RE JG: it's funny how an 18 win season and a playoff gem changes "lacks intensity" to "nothing upsets him" or "calm demeanor".

It's pretty amazing that Contreras, our hotest pitcher, has had the worst outing so far and all he did was give up 3 runs in 8 1/3 innings. When your worst pitching performance is 8 1/3 innings and 3 runs, you're in pretty good shape.

This was a great win to get. I thought this was the match-up that favored us the least. Who knows, we could end up losing the next two, but it's certainly great to win this one and have two more shots at getting a 3rd win before heading home.

Okay with that weighty observation out of the way, here are my sillier observations:

Gar's GF is smokin', and she plays catch with him, too. All those old guys crowded around and leering at her should be ashamed of themselves.

Lackey's incessant mouthbreathing was an embarrassment to the Angels organization. That, and the cookie he threw Konerko.

Anderson is a lazy ****, no matter what Joe Buck says. He started running harder when he belatedly realized he had a chance to catch that foul, which he eventually missed by a just few feet. Buck must have had remorse about covering for the guy, because he did point out later that Anderson never budged from the batter's box when he hit a liner that landed just a few feet foul down the LF line.

"Igu," as Ozzie called him, is the man offensively and defensively.

It was at the beginning of the game. McCarver was contrasting Lackey's "great" second-half with Garland's "lousy" second-half. This is what passes for insight in Tim McCarver's mind because he claimed their near-identical full season records didn't tell the real story.

Game 1 starter, Paul Byrd.

The great and mighty managerial genius, Mike Scioscia, had better get this hen house in order, STAT. This kind of bull**** is precisely what his team DOESN'T need to be concerned with.

Scioscia ****ed up bringing in his third-string catcher.
Scioscia ****ed up letting his reliever stand out on the mound doing nothing while he wandered around the field appealing to six different umpires.
Scioscia ****ed up standing in the dugout acting pissed off after Ozuna stole second base when he should have been waddling his fat ass out to the mound to settle down his reliever. The kid served a cookie on a 0-2 pitch to lose the game.
If Paul Byrd is still barking about dropped third strikes two full days after Game 2, Mike Scioscia does not have his team mentally prepared to advance to the World Series.

That's fine with me. Thanks, Mike.

Fox news was very complimentary. After the Corey McPherrin (he's a Sox fan, right?), Blackjack and Rowand interview, she made a comment about Rowand looking good in his cutoff shirt. She said his "guns"? were cute and the other anchor asked if she has a crush on Rowand. She said yes.

Mike Murphy then said, "Robin Robinson, you're not the only one."

Important baseball note:

*They did ask why Rowand was wearing an icepack on his left shoulder, and Blackjack explained that it was from the slide Rowand had the other game. (I'm guessing the slide at home where Molina tagged Rowand out).

*Rowand added that Herm has him on painkillers.

Get well soon Aaron. We'll need you before it's all done. As will Robin Robinson.

If Mike Mussina had pitched a complete game 2-run victory for the Yankees in the ALCS, you can bet ESPN would have done a special 2.5 hour edition of Baseball Tonight, preempting NFL Live and anything else on the program calender too. You can take that one to the bank.

The Sox aren't an ESPN storyline. The Sox aren't a Cubune storyline either. They'll each do the bare minimum covering the Sox just to save face.

I'm not going to read through this entire thread, so if this was already mentioned, I apologize. But, we've only had our bullpen used for 2/3 of an inning this entire series! With Freddy and Contreras going in our next two, that just isn't right for Anaheim, and I'm loving it!!!
