View Full Version : Who wins the AL East next year?

The Yankees situation seems brutal. Even the normally staid New York Times is piling on.

The Red Sox seem resigned to a break-up.

The Orioles made a good first half run, but sputtered.

The Jays showed some life.

The Rays, at least, won't have to deal with Sweet Lou bashing ownership.

So who comes out on top?

If Rogers Cable the deep pocket owner of the Jays gives the OK their payroll going up

Tampa Bay maybe 2 or 3 years away but they have some great young talent

Baltimore has sunk in the Inner Harbor

I think it's going to be the Red Sox and Yankees again. I hate it, but it always will be.

Red Sox in first next year though.

Yankees
Jays
Red Sox

But I'm hoping it's

Jays
Orioles
Rays
Yankees
Red Sox

That won't be happening for awhile though.

If the Rays could get a couple of front-line starting pitchers in trade they might be pretty damn good....but of course the Yankees will reload and probably win....

lest we forget Boston won 95 games with no #1 starter and no closer.

Jonathan Papelbon (http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=449097) will be in the rotation and may well wind up as the #2 guy after Schilling ( assuming Schilling can come back )

Wells may retire or ask for a trade. He loved the team and clubhouse but hated the city saying he could never go out after a game, everybody wanted his time.

Manny ( who knows ) today we hear this
Red Sox' future on Manny's mind -- Wants powwow with brass (http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=106663)
In case you thought you had Manny Ramirez all figured out, think again. In fact, picture this: A smiling Ramirez meeting with the Red Sox' top brass, poring over player projection charts, stat sheets and payroll estimates

Boston will be in the hunt I think the bigger mess is New York.

I don't blame the D-Rays problems on Sweet Lou. Being from that area, it was Namoli...nobody really liked that guy. I'm glad new ownership has taken over for them. We had more Sox fans cheering there than D-Rays fans when I was down there for a series. They have the talent to do some good things, but with a payroll 4.5 mil above A-Rods, there isn't much you can do. Once you have to pay Baldelli, Crawford, Kazmir, Upton, etc. plus try and hold onto any other talented guys they have, their payroll is going to shoot up!

Boston almost won that division this year, and I think they will win it by at least 3 or 4 games next year. The Jays will give them a scare tho, with Reid Johnson and all.

I think Toronto makes a run. IIRC, they have money to spend in the offseason and Russ Adams, Aaron Hill, and Alexis Rios will all be playing with a full season under their belt. Halladay will be healthy, and Vernon Wells will anchor the offense. Hopefully, the Jays won't sign Burnett, like the rumors have it. If they go out and get 2 quality starters, not necessarily aces (or joke aces, like Burnett), they could be in good shape. The bullpen doesn't look too bad, either, and with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Orioles all possibly seeing major changes and breakups, the Jays could fly away with the AL East (excuse the embarrasingly bad pun).

Who cares

Considering that this website is for the fans of an AL West team, that is likely the best answer possible.

As for who'll win the AL East next year, it's complete folly to even speculate. So much will happen to the rosters between now and April 1st that predictions made now are based on nothing less than wild guesses.

Um, AL Central. Or do we all look alike west of the Hudson?

1993?!? I never suspected you of being a bandwagon fan . . .

Time to pour a cold one (root beer, that is) in my 1983 champions mug to watch the 2005 champs . . .

It of course all depends on what they do in the offseason. I think as is the Red Sox probably can win the division but really need some pitching help.

The blue jays need a full season out of Halladay and one more starting pitcher to compliment the young guys and I think they make a run.

Yankees are another year older and deeper in debt". They'd like to move some of the lemons they picked up on the free agent market last season but it looks as if they are stuck with them and they are probably not going to be big spenders in the free agent market since even they seem to be grasping for some sort of fiscal responsibility.

1. Red Sox
2. Toronto
3 Yankees
4. Tampa

What fantasy world are you living in? There is no way Toronto can win that division with their starting pitching. They have Halladay and uh well nobody else. Yankees win the division again.

I still think it'll be the Red Sox and Yankees, but their records will not be very good, and the Wild Card will not come from the East...
